Super-16 analogue camera for digital composition

Ok here it goes...

the Super-16 frame ratio is 1.65 this is usually translated as 2048×1240 (with square pixels)
I am working with a camera of 1.65 ratio and i scan at a 2048x1240 resolution
after painting them we will do the transfer to film which means it will get blown up ...
for ease of use do u think that a lesser resolution could be used instead like 1287x780..
I know that using a 1280x720 HD resolution for blowing up to film works great...
Or should i stick with the 2048x1240 for safety of information during the film transfer... ?

any ideas thoughts or experiences would be helpfull :)

The way I worked this problem out is that I draw everything in 1080p resolution but render the finished, colored projects twice as uncompressed (BGR24) avi.:
1. As 720p for editing purposes in my NLE (Vegas)
2. As 1080p to another folder for future conversion to 35 mm film.
I make sure that each file is named the exact same way.
After my film is finished I proceed to split it into four, roughly 20 minute sections (for an 83 minute film).
Each section I render onto an external HD as an image sequence, but just before I do that, I hide the 720p file folders and rename the 1080p folders with the 720p names, thus tricking Vegas into loading the 1080p AVIs, which will not play well in Vegas but they don't have to anymore.
Then I take the HDs to the filmout studio for scanning.
Sound is dealt with separately.

ah! i see
thanks Paul,
so u actually force Vegas to use a proxy (720p) manually and use as a final res the 1080p...that's clever...

I wonder if i can do that in Final cut..

haha of course you can :)
to be honest i am trying hard to harness final cut since we have it at the studio
i still feel more at home with windows NLE apps..
The big test will be this film we are working on now.. it is around 15mins and i'll have to read more manuals i guess ;)...
