pencilbrush that behaves like real pencil

Post by hilere »

As a follow up on a feature request I created this brush as a test. So why not share it.
A brush that behaves, as close as I can get, like a real pencil.

I really like this pencil. I played around with it and made some variations.
I have been using a different blue than the stock sketch panel blue, which is not "green" enough for my taste. So I modified the current blue sketch panel buttons to be RGB (0, .5, 1) and included them in this panel. Additionally, I made a button that erases all the blue and makes the current black into blue. Like a "let's retry that black" button.

Wow Meslin, Thanks for honoring my pencil like this. What you did with it is absolutely fabulous!!!

Myself I finetuned the pencil already before I saw your post. I made it a bit more grainy so it looks a bit more like pencil too. Made a HB and a 3B pencil. I named the thicker pencils "fat", because I do not know how you can see the pixel width of a line in TVP (9.5). I'm interested to know ...if someone could explain...

I'm thrilled if anyone finds these useful. In terms of pixel width...I made the brushes first, then measured the line diameter afterwards (using the very fancy technique of hovering my cursor at the top of the line, referring to the y value in the status bar, and subtracting the y-value of the bottom edge of the line). So it's not very precise, but with a variable-width line, is it ever?
It's very cool how simply turning off the anti-aliasing can yield a very nice grain effect (and kick the brush performance into overdrive).
I'm also rooting for the addition of a profile curve for the anim brush frame. That'd open some new avenues.
