Easier Custom Panels editing

Post by Soom »

The custom panels idea is great by itself, but I find the current panels editing system a bit cumbersome.
In order to edit the placement of actions, we need to go through a complex path of manipulations involving right-clicking in very correct precise place, copying and pasting and not being able to see where are the right spaces and separators, and also without being able to undo.
I think that instead of all this, there could be one "Customize" option on every panel, which would put the current panel into an Editing mode, where we could see visually what is where and just drag the actions, spaces and separators with the mouse without getting into complex ordering issues.

That would be so nice. I'd like to have the ability to really place stuff where I want it, not depending on the length of names.

This topic is almost one year old and maybe this is already in the making.

I just wanted to say that it would be nice, if I could just drag and drop custom buttons/brushes from one place to another.
When I work, I often just throw custom cut-brushes or brushes on the custom panel. After a while I want to reorganize them.
Right now it is really complicated to do that.

Drag and drop for custom panels is almost impossible, or will need at least several months of development.

Ok then, it is not that big of a deal. Maybe someday in the future.

I actually just found out (because of this topic) that you can paste a brush between two existing brushes when you right click on the tiny space between them. Usually, I just pasted it at the end and had a mess after some months  .

I think it would already help if the names I give to my custom buttons don't get pasted besides them, but only show up on rollover as a tooltip. Is that possible?

don't you just have to write the name down in the comment field instead of the name field (leaving the name field blank) :?:

The custom panels have many great features but some of them are kind of "hidden" or not that obvious.
Like the tiny 1-2 pixel wide space between two buttons. I would have never guessed that it is possible to right click there (well, actually I guessed at the end  ).

Hmm - are you sure? somehow I thought it's easier than that. Considering that most software, and all Mac software let's you reorganize menu buttons by dragging and dropping, and most of this software are small low budget or open source programs... Most of them have "Customize..." button, which takes you into Menu editing mode. I think TVP could have something like this in the panel right click menu.

It's not so easy to implement, as we don't use the common Mac/Apple interface tools with drag'n drop options integrated (those tools are too slow to keep TVPaint responsive).
