Better transform results

If you compare TVPaint to Photoshop, why is it that the results of transforming your images is so much worse in TVPaint?
Trying to rotate or scale an image (using the transform tool) or cut out brush always makes it very blurry. Even with the anti-aliasing settings on best (or none) always gives a bad result. Every time I use this function I have to trace the image again to get the maximum result. In photoshop rotating or scaling are not perfect, but the results are ten times better.

Is it possible to make this better in next versions of TVPaint?... It would save a lot of time

I used a Siemens star and rotated it 4° and 20° both in TVP and PS. Then I pasted it all together to form this image. Can you see which quarter is the result of which program? I can't.

Of course you will get successively worse results if you rotate the same image again and again again.

I agree that it is especially bad when using the cutbrush. With the Transform Tool it looks slightly better with the new 'smart' option. Is there a reason that 'smart' is not available for the cutbrush or the Warp Tool?

Good question.

Hum.

+1 on this request . This is a long-existing issue that should be improved in TVPaint. It doesn't matter if I set Anti-Aliasing to "Smart" or "Best" ... if I do more than one transformation of a drawing (scale or rotate) the line quality on the transformed drawing is noticeably blurry compared to drawings in the same sequence that have not been scaled or rotated using the Transform Tool . This is not a big problem when animating a rough test , but for clean-up (where one is likely to use the Transform Tool or the Out-of-Pegs function frequently) it is a big problem . This IS one area where I have to say the transform tools in PS are better (and I don't say that about many things in comparing PS to TVPaint. I much prefer TVPaint for almost everything over PS . )

When this has been brought up in the past a workaround has been suggested : use the Curves FX from the FX stack to "sharpen" the line on the transformed drawing . This is not a good workaround because of two reasons:

1.) It is an extra step to perform for a simple function . When dealing with potentially hundreds of drawings in production this is a major time drain.

2.) It doesn't really work that well. Using the Curve FX can "sharpen" the line , but it usually makes the line (pixels) too jaggy.
