Set opacity of other Layers when "Display current"

Post by Mads Juul »

Right now when enable "display current" You can only see the current layer. I would like to expand this fuctionality to being able to set the opacity of the other layers in the display panel. So if i set the opacity to 40%. then when i enabled display cuennt it would look like all the other layers had the opacity 40% When i disable display current the opacitys would go back to whatever they are set. If i want the same result as it is now i would set the opacity to 0%.this would be a feature I will find very usefull I have made custom scripts to obtaib something like it. But they are working to slow. I never use "display current" I need to se the other layers when I draw. But suddenly It occured to me this expansion of the functionality of "display current"

I really think this would be a great improvement. It is on the top of my wishlist for new features for TVP.
And it should be pretty easy to implement?
It would be a feature I would use all the time. I would use it more than for instance the lighttable or renaming clips. and that is feautures I use alot.
I hope you will concider to implement this feature

Here's an illustration of my request

When I sat the transparency of the other layers. I noticed I had drawn some ogf the riders head on the lion layer. That's exactly why this is a great feature. to prevent this.

Again, this is something I would use all the time as well and what I like about it is that it comes from the digital world -- a real light table would never offer you this and that must be why I never thought of asking for it myself. When setting up a scene one never wants to see everything go away but just enough to make the current layer stand out . You always want to see a reference of what you are drawing now to everything you have already done -- but just a little.

Nice to know you will always come up with features I always wanted but didn't know it.

I would be using this feature not only for the drawing process but for the finished pencil test as well, to keep until the scenes get colored. I like to emulate the look of color by making all other layers but the one with the main character lighter, as if backgrounds and secondary characters were drawn with a pencil and only the main character drawn with pen and ink. I do this for clients all the time because they like it too. It makes it easier for people who are not used to pencil tests get a look closer to the finished film, once it will be painted.

Does this mean you want to be able to export avi with the current display enabled? Or do you show your clients the tvp files?

With current display enabled. Are you saying this wouldn't work that way?

Ahhhh. It works this way now. When you export with current display enabled you export current display. I didn't know that.
that's nice.
So Yes it should keep working that way. But I didn't know it did. You learn something new each dah.
