view more than 1 frame from the same clip

Post by sharonkatz »

I'd like to view frame image B from a different layer in the same clip while working on current frame A. Is there anyway to view more than 1 frame from the same clip at the same time?
Thanks,
Sharon

You mean like onionskinning? This is provided via the Light Table feature. Or do you mean something else entirely?

He means something else: comparing a frame early in the timeline with one much later, without all the frames inbetween.

Sometimes I have a similar need, but in those cases I just copy one frame into a new layer and stretch that frame so it's visible everywhere. I only need this for reference, most likely to make sure my character still has the same size.

Actually what I mean is can I open 2 preview windows for the 2 different frames at the same time?

In effect, like a new zoom window but for a different frame.

You can have more than one project open at the same time. Modify your project which means it will just create a duplicate and keep both of them on.

I'm afraid it could be soon or later confusing, ... "am I drawing on the "current frame" view or on the "reference" view ?"
imo, actually opening 2 different projects is the way to go, personnaly, I have a little script "FrameXtract2NP" which does exactly that :
- go to the reference frame, hit the script-button, and go back to your working frame, the reference is opened and stay visible in it's own (single frame) project, as long as you don't close it.
another way you may experiment is to bookmark the 2 frames, and to "flip" through the bookmarks when you need to check something,
you don't see the 2 frames simultaneously, but sequencially, one after the other in the same window,
as animator, imho it's a good way for checking as well.

I haven't gotten around to script writing yet (still somewhat of a newbie), but that's a good idea, thanks.
