I know some things discribed here are not absolutely necessary or even sexy additions but some are great for more readability or for more screen estate ,which would result in more functionality and easier working experience. If some of these ideas have already been posted I am sorry.
More screen estate
Canvas windows should be able to be moved outside of the tvpaint area (the program screen). Like photoshop and toonboom and some other programs.
Especially when using multiple screens (cintiq or other) you loose a lot of screen estate due to title bar,menu bar and toolbar=>space that is unnecessary taken and useless in the second screen. While there are some options to manually reduce some of that loss,it could still be better.
Also the titlebar serves no real purpose. You already have the titles of projects next to the toolbar/proxy. The menu and title bar (close,minimize buttons) should therefore be merged,imo.
The Project title tabs you can cycle through (next to the proxy bar))might also be put there,and if you don't have room for them on your screen make it a dropdown (like that arrow on the far right). This would open up room to use for more usefull stuff,even if you work on only one screen. If you try to move the toolbar you loose those title bars anyway,so they should be placed elswhere.
Now if you did all that. The toolbar is bound to have shrunk a bit. But make it customizable so that if you want to add/remove buttons,you can.
Canvas title bar clean up
Right now every canvas window title bar has a bit much info. Project name,clip name,current layer name,size percentage,current image number..
It's bloated and unreadable.
1)the percentage and rotation degree size should be omitted (this is also present in the rightclick on the canvas title bar when you want full project info)
You already have that info on the bottom of the canvas and it's not really part of the project,layer or image identity.
2)Seperate Layer name, Clip name ,project name and number. Put Project and clip name on the left (as it is) ,Layer name in the middle of the bar and number on the far right. Now if you look up the info you can look right left or center depending on what you want to know. As it is now I get confused easily.
3)maybe a different font or color for even more visability if you have small canvas sizes
Another possibility is using just one letter for the obvious info.
=> project->p
=>clip->C,
=>Layer->L,
=>current Image->I
so that makes for example
P:"jumping man:the movie" C:"Jump over tree" L:"Character jump" I: 17
But with blank spaces between them
This is a lot less reading,and a whole lot more working
This same method can be used for the Layer title bar.
Better autorename
Now when you make clip or layer or project you always get untitled 1 ,untitled 2
While this is fine,it could be so much easier if you use
Untitled 1,2,3 (Project) ->Project 1,2,3
Untitled 1,2,3 (clip) ->Clip 1,2,3
Untitled 1,2,3 (Layer) ->Layer 1,2,3
While ofcourse you can rename everything as you wish,you don't always do that while working. You make new layers or clips ,and often you can forget naming them.
Instead of seeing "untitled" 10-20 times in titles, this way you would instantly know that you're reading/looking at a clip/project/ layer.
Clips at this moment also have no automatic numbering. It remains untitled whatever you do.
Clips are a different breed also. since they can be in a different scene (1/2 , 2/4 ,1/3...) it might be nice to have a (rightclick or menu) function-> "rename clips automaticly" according to clip number
this would result in each clip getting named according to their number=> clip 1/2 , Clip 2/4, Xlip 1/3....
Enhance screen estate + canvas title overhaul + auto rename
Re: Enhance screen estate + canvas title overhaul + auto ren
yep, I agree on those points
