A suggestion....When you merge layers the merge type should default to the layer setting ie if you are merge a multiple layer onto a colour layer then the merge type should default to multiply not colour. Also when merging multiple layers each layer should use the appropriate setting.
since you obviously want the look of the layer type it makes sense to not have to rest the merge type each time.

Re: Merge Layer automatically set to layer type
Can you specify what kind of merging you refer to?
by dragging one layer onto another, or by selecting layers and using the Merge command?
Both functions give different results.

I don't think I understood what you mean.JohnArtbox wrote:Also when merging multiple layers each layer should use the appropriate setting. since you obviously want the look of the layer type it makes sense to not have to rest the merge type each time.

Re: Merge Layer automatically set to layer type
I used the drag and drop merge layers. The merge command appears to apply the layer type but the example the shade layer type result appears different to the layer view.
I've attached a simple screen capture to illustrate what I mean Thanks

Re: Merge Layer automatically set to layer type
Your problem is normal and is not a bug, because the merge results from a mathematical calculation.
As you used a blending mode on one layer, when you merge your three layers, the results cannot correspond to what you see with three different layers (because a blending mode only works if there is a reference => if you put a layer in Colorize mode above an empty layer, you won't see anything).
So, if you want to merge your three layers, put them all in color mode. Concerning the layer in Shade mode, put it in Color mode, then activate the alpha mode and flood your image in black. Then, down the opacity and merge the three layers.
