TVPaint on 64 bit OS?

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of upgrading my OS to Windows 7 Pro and installing in 64 bit mode.
Does TVPaint support 64 bit (9.5.3 pro)?
Has anyone tried this?

If not: I am told that Windows 7 in 64 bit mode still supports some 32 bit software?
Does this apply to TV Paint?

Any feedback would help me a lot, Thanx.

Hi Stefan,

I'm working on 64bits Vista with TVP (9.5.5 at this moment). Though TVP doesn't take full advantage the of the 64bits platform (as I've understood) it' s nice and smooth and stable.

I'm wondering how much memory TVP can use when running under 64 bits; would that be max 2 or 4 GB ? Does anybody know ?

TVP will see and use all RAM installed on your machine under a 64 bit OS.

No, TVPA is still a 32bit application, and thus is limited to 4Gb, maybe less depending on what M$ decided...
For instance it's 3Gb on XP when using the patch, 2Gb without the patch.

So if you have more than 4 GB installed on 64b (6 or 12), TVP will see and use a total of 4 GB?

Hi ematecki, what patch could that be? And where could I find it?

I am running XP pro at the moment with 2Gb RAM (because I was indeed told that more RAM would not be accessed by XP).

I will have to get more RAM installed anyway, but could try what TVP does with 1Gb extra RAM before installing Windows7.

I hope we get an update for Win7 that can use more than 3gig.

The main reason I look forward to win7 is to stuff it with as much RAM as I can afford + a couple SSD drives now that win7 has support for trim.

You can find some pages explaining the 3GB switch over here, Stefan.

Thanks a lot Sewie!

I 'll be away for a few days now.

(9.5.3 pro)
Please upgrade to the recent 9.5.5, some big bugs have been corrected :)

By the way, TVP Animation works on windows 7. The only problem comes from the Wacom management from Windows 7 ... you have a lot of tablet settings to change or windows 7 will try to open panels or scroll the screen while painting ... microsoft seems not understand that tablets can be used for painting :(

In Vista you can disable your "Wacom Virtual Hid Driver" in the device manager. That usually does the trick. I don't know how that works in W7, though...

You can set this in the Control panel (there is a special "stylus parameters"... I don't know the good name in English, sorry >_<)
