Magic Number list!

Well, I've got my unofficial TVPaint wiki page rolling along... Basically, the most important goal of the wiki is to be a repository for undocumented information, or for obscure SDK information.

Every day, little by little, I'll be adding information on the new SDK commands, but if anyone wishes to add information or perform translations, you're more than welcome to join in!

Anyways, here's the Magic Number list,

http://digitalartoasis.com/wiki/index.php/Magic_Numbers

and if you have any of your own to add (please no joke numbers, 'kay?) please add them!

I don't know what's your "wakiki" affair, and how to use it,
but you can add the number 4, which is a bunch of benches...

That's a really good one... Done.

The "wiki" concept is one in which many people can contribute and edit articles. In the case of TVPaint, which has so many undocumented functions (and many more being added on a regular basis), it's often a very large challenge for single person to keep it up-to-date.

A good example of the "wiki" concept in use is the Wikipedia, an encyclopedia whose content is kept up-to-date by the public.

The unofficial TVPaint wiki that I'm hosting on http://www.digitalartoasis.com/wiki uses the same engine as the one on www.wikipedia.org.

that's a great concept, indeed, but who's making the police, to watch over the growing content, re-organize it,
and eventually to "clean" insanities and other masked spams ?

With any online community, the more legitimate users inhabiting it, the fewer idiot spammers there will be. For example, I have never seen spam being posted on the TVPaint forums, and many of the other bustling forums that I go to have very little spam at all. I have a feeling that an uninhabited forum makes a good target for spammers because it appears that nobody is watching it, and that no one will be around to delete the spam.

So for the time being, the forums that I administrate don't have many people in them so I have the dubious honor of having to deal out smack-downs for idiot spammers.

I wound up having to ban every e-mail address from Russia (*@*.ru) because nearly every spam account that is created has that suffix. I don't often have new members either, so I always take a peek at new user profiles. Oftentimes, they are e-mail addresses or web page addresses link to some stupid porn site or pharmaceutical web site, etc. etc. so I have to terminate these on the spot.

Sometimes I see posts that contain nothing more than links to other web pages that are totally unrelated to TVPaint or drawing or painting software or hardware and contain no informative content. These are simply attempts to Google bomb a web site (in order to make it appear higher in Google's ranking).

As for keeping the information in a wiki organized, anyone who sees something that's out of place or incorrect can make the necessary movements or changes. Multiple revisions are saved, so it's easy to revert changes in case of wiki vandalism. If the site becomes very busy, then I'll be very willing to accept trustworthy volunteers who are willing to assist me in maintaining the site.

In fact, the TVPaint staff are welcome to join and be granted administrator status. If a users performs a search for an article that does not exist, he can simply create a stub and hopefully some other good Samaritan will fill it out.

thanks for your plain explanation, Mark,
and for your convivial site too, of course.

Great idea, Mark.

I'm sure your Wiki will become invaluable in no time!

By the way, is there a link from 'main page' to the 'magic numbers' page? (I couldn't find any).

hi Asaf,

I've asked myself the same question, my self-answer was : "no",
and the "workaround" was : go to the "search"embedded engine (left side), type "Magic" and hit "GO"
:)

I'm glad that in the age of automation we still have to tackle issues manually :)

And it still takes a human to automate things... :P
