save custom brushes with paper

Post by CharlieC »

wondering about saving the paper when making a custom brush. also whether there's a difference when saving with the yellow/red/blue 'grab current tool with A color' arrow in the tool bin vs the choices you get with a RMB on a custom toolbar.
the quotes below are from the TVP 8.5 manual. the first quote concerns the 'grab current tool with A color' arrow, which seems to imply that it remembers the paper and turns it on. the second quote which immediately follows in the manual seems to contradict it, but maybe i'm reading it wrong.

Once you grab a tool with or without its colors, the current paper, the parameters and the
connection profiles are taken into account. It is then possible to create and store more realistic
drawing tools.
Be carreful : when you save a custom panel, the papers linked to your tools are not
saved.
In other words, if you decide to save a custom panel, only the brushes and
their settings will be saved on your harddrive.
This doesn't matter if you used the papers that are given by default with the software.
However, if you have created and used your own papers, you will have to save and load them
separately. Your custom papers are located in the Papers sub-directory of your configuration.
when i look at the edit settings of other people's brushes from content sharing, it appears that perhaps all paper and on/off info is achieved with grg scripts; true?

you're right, "Grab current tool with Color" records the current tool (custom brush f.i), its settings, and the paper when involved.
the paper is called by name, so when you use a user-made custom paper (not being part of the tvpa inbuilt papers),
it will work fine on your computer, but as soon as you will have to share it (use it on another computer),
you will have to load the custom panel AND the custom paper.

that's was true for v8.x , and fortunately, we never have to care about paper files anymore (since v9.0),
thanks to .tvpx format which manages perfectly the papers when it goes to sharing with other users (export custom panels). 8)

for Activate/Desactivate the paper in a custom button, you can edit/add the command (type script's command) :
tv_paper active 0/1 (0 = desactive, 1 = active),
you can also toogle the paper state by the command Tools: Toggle Paper
(assignable to shortkeys of course).
