Congrats Paul for your Annecy official selection in the feature films category , you're in the ten, out of 45 films that were submitted this year, in-sandwitched in the selected list between "Monsters vs Aliens" and "Redline" !

Thanks, so we are in at Annecy and both Sandra and I are working out the logistics of how to get there, which means mostly what to do about our dogs.. Herve and Fabrice are preparing a TVP conference so that we can showcase what can be done with TVP and paperless animated 2D feature films by just two people in their living room. Will you be there? Anyone else?

... it was touch and go for awhile and Tulip was almost withdrawn from the festival by my producer because he was having second thoughts and wanted to give preference to having Tulip entered in the Venice festival, which happens later in the summer and demands exclusivity. This means that if the film should be shown in another festival, such as Annecy, Venice wouldn't accept it. Now it seems that my producer made the mistake of not withdrawing Tulip in time from Annecy and the festival is standing by its right to show it. Finding the right distributor is a tricky game and one has to be on one's toes to play the political part of the game to a film's advantage.

Personally, I don't see Annecy as being in such a disadvantage to the Venice festival but my producer isn't familiar with the animation circuit. I am positive that he will find it perfectly wonderful in the end, since all major distributors recognize Annecy as a major player. Just being accepted for competition automatically qualifies us for entry into the Oscars -- if he chooses to do do.

agreed, Annecy is THE place where to be when it goes to catch the european market (distributors)
for an animated feature film.
The only "obstacle" I can see actually is the restrictive "Adults" target public mentionned
on your festival filing-card, why not to extend a bit the film's target public as Redline's one ?

There's another aspect to restricting children from films with adult themes, even from those that don't show any explicit sex at all, and I appreciate such restrictions, which is that just the presence of kids sitting next to me makes me feel uneasy during certain situations. Kids have a natural tendency to giggle at farts and the sight of someone pissing ... whatever. I don't want those kinds of irritants in the theater while I'm watching a movie clearly made for adults.

I wish there were elevators restricted to adults only so that I don't have to have some nitwit kid sneering at my hat and telling me that I look like a cowboy just to see if he can piss me off and his nitwit mother laughing at me too (to which I asked her why she's so fat and she got very upset). So I see such restrictions not always so much as just protective measures towards the sensitivities of kids but the sensitivities of adults as well.

Actually I'd like to see Tulip rated as a film for over thirty year olds.

First I thought there is a new TVP-newsletter on the run (?) ---- but to have Tulip in Europe seen first time in official world public are also very good news ! The feedback will be different to competitive reactions in America, I am guessing. Any additional station in Europe planned so far ?

Klaus, if you mean by "station" any other place or festival, not that I know of. TV availability will happen in a year or two is my guess. There's a good chance that it will be accepted at the Telluride festival in Colarado (a biggie) and the film already has been approved by the Toronto festival (the equivalent of Cannes, Berlin and Venice) and the Ottawa festival. The official public premiere is on Sept 16th at the Film Forum in New York City. That's about all I know of.

well, I hardly can't disagree with that revelant point,
but my thought was from the producer's viewpoint, without the 15>25 "young" target, I doubt the film will stay longtime enough (several weeks or more) in the theater(s) and so have the time to catch its Adults audience (one recommending it to his neighbourhood, and so on, preading slowly but surely abroad).
... in an other hand, children use to sleep during such "Adult" targeted films, and you must admit they sleep more silently than older (snoring) people ...
