TVPaint kind of freezes when I import footage

When I import footage' (mostly when I insert an image made in another program as a background) TVpaint just kind of does nothing. The image appears as it should, but then the program won't do anything else. I can minimize and resize it, and it seems like if I wait around for a really long time (like 20 minutes) it'll suddenly start being fine again. I had the problem a few minutes ago and after waiting a while and trying to close TVPaint without success, it finally started working when I right-clicked the mouse.

Anyone else have any problem like this?

Okay, I downloaded and installed it, but the properties in TVPaint still list it as being the older (8.5.10) version. Does that not change?

just uninstall the previous version before reinstalling the new one.
