Hey! I just discovered that there's a new way to set I/O points (besides the way it's been done in the project panel). If you RMB click directly on the ruler, on top of the layers, you can select from a menu what you need.

But Hey again!!!! Now we can do this with key commands:
Mark: Set Mark In
Mark: Set Mark Out

and more: ...go to mark, toggle mark... etc.

We live in exiting times!

I am continually amazed as I explore TVP 9.

I thought you would be the first one to react, because I know you've been asking for this too. I even found a convenient and yet unused key combo: Ctrl Pad 1, Ctrl Pad 2 etc.

Yeah...I never have assigned those keys either using control. Great idea. Yep...I'm pleased as punch with this addition.

I've noticed that those "mark-in", "mark-out" points are reset when I restart the program and reload the TVP project. Is there any way they can be saved with the project file ?

Anybody ? See my question above...

Sewie, remember when I talked about creating markers in a project by making a blank (un seen) layer...
Well this work aroud is also great for creating sequences for in/out point playbacks...even over multi-layers.


This work around actually has many functions and uses...

Say you want to be able to playback over frames 32-98....then just make a (marking) layer that goes from 32 to 98...
When you need to playback...just double click on that layer..and select all frames...then you can playback that sequence...even after leaving the project and reloading it.

As I stated before...then you can also name this sequence...and use it as marker in the project...

Hope this helps...till TVP has time to implement what you are wanting.

Thanks Radams, it works (but, in this case) it's not very practical in the workflow, I find. Quite a workaround... It is about as complicated to set as it is to mark the 'in' and 'out' points. Except that you would need to do it every time before playback. Not very handy for me.

Hey Sewie, I have a workaround which I use all the time: Never close TVP.
I'm only half joking. I truly close TVP only on rare occasions -- why bother? I understand Herves explanation of memory frag so I do of course close TVP once in awhile -- I actually shut down the whole computer occasionally for the same reason, since other apps need memory defrag as well. But most of the time I just leave TVP up and running, day and night.

Interesting, Paul. Tantalizing idea, not to have to reset everything when you re-open a project.

How often do you shut down to defrag?

Every two or three weeks, maybe once a month. Usually something in either Vegas or TVP gives me a warning, like a noticeable slow-down in some functions and usually it's Vegas that slows down first. BTW I use the term "memory defrag" loosely because I picked it up from Herve who used it only as an explanation to make a comparison with HD defrag. I doubt it is proper nomenclature but it says what it means very simply.

Do you really keep your pc running for weeks ? That's quite a workaround...
I never do that.

Yup, for weeks. I'll turn it off at the approach of a big storm, but otherwise they all stay up day and night. We turn off the monitors at night but my nights are short. We each have two computers and a fifth one in the office. I must admit that they keep the central air conditioner at the height of summer running as well almost non-stop 'round the clock, and in the fall and winter they keep the central heat from turning on as often, so the electric bill stays balanced (and high). It's a business expense. Compared to the bills we used to have when working with film equipment it's negligible though.
