Layer: Pick Layer key command

Can someone please explain how this command works now in TVP? There seem to be some changes that I can't quite grasp. Once I point to an image I get several choices of what it might be I am pointing at:
Dog 3
Dog 3
BKG
This is nice because the top Dog 3 is the line drawing layer, below that is the color layer and below that, because I scribble, is the BKG.
What happens afterwards is maddening. Somehow TVP won't let me select the very layer I want and it's hard for me to describe all this jumping up and down to everywhere but the chosen layer. I don't get it.
EDIT: I had to close the project window because of this and it crashed TVP. After reopening everything works as expected.

look like the pipes were clogged
a powerful flush... and it goes.
one of those digital-behaves-mechanical kind of moments. :?

Whatever happened, happened, but this is a powerful little function and it impresses me how it offers the 3 options instead of just pointing to the closest one, which might have been the BKG, thus offering me an entirely useless piece of information. Good stuff around here -- a joy to step into these sweet little surprises.
