Keep text aligned to the left, TV Paint for Animatic

I am looking into using TV paint as a storyboard or animatic tool to do something similar to this
http://www.olivier-ladeuix.com/blog/vid ... uix_06.mov
The example above was done in a combination of Sketchbook pro on Tablet PC and Combustion.
TV Paint is able to do pretty much everything but one thing that is giving me trouble is the text.
As you can see, each panel as a Shot number and a panel number.
Right now the way I am doing it is to
- create a grid with Snap option on
- select the text brush
- type the text
- click on Create brush
- then modify the Handle to Bottom left instead of center.
The last step is a bit of a pain as the Handle position always goes back to Center so everytime I place a new text I need to say "Bottom left again"
Is there a better way to do that?

thanks Herve. This is working.
In the future, it would be nice if TV paint could remember the last setting used instead of having to load a new Toolbar.
The class5 students at Animation Mentor are about to start the animatic for their short and I would like to show them that TV paint is the best software for that.

it does, with the CutBrush "Keep" option,
but unfortunately it doesn't work with TextBrush creation.
Alternatively, without using CP new button,
you can set a shortkey (or modify the shift+O default one) by assigning
Brush: Toggle Handle Corner command 3 times (crtl+assign) :
Code: Select all
Shift O - Brush: Toggle Handle Corner + Brush: Toggle Handle Corner + Brush: Toggle Handle Corner

thanks for your input Zigotto
I am very interested by your option and it s great that TV paint allows that kind of tweak however I am trying to convince my schoolmates that TV paint is a great software for them but having to do some advance customisation just to get started will put them off rightaway.
Herve's CP seems a bit simpler as it could be added to a "Storyboard Toolbar" that I am creating
Thanks anyway

agreed! it is not a good selling point.
some of the custompanels
(like the instance panel and the one with all the paint & pencil brushes) should be an integral part of the program.
or else some way should be found to make adding custompanels even easier
(drag & drop?)

I've just mentioned this "work-around", for those who would want the same, but "disconnected",
I mean without having to load/upload a CP bin file.
In an other hand, I think it's good to early learn how to customize the software UI, as it's one of tvpa strength,
and each user have his own needs and his own way to work.
f.i. most of the shortkeys I use frequently have been changed from the default set,
regarding my own use, my dualscreen config, and the Keyboard/tablet arrangement on my desktop,
(and my left-handed condition)

I'm adding my voice on this notion.

Or maybe actions recorder (so it could capture complex functions)?

User friendly UI is a selling point, not sure about customisation possibilities.

hi Olivier,
Just take a look here for the customisations :

so much things are possible ...
and we still have some surprises in the future TVP Animation 9.0

the problem is not me. I am already convinced but everytime I show the software to people telling them that it is a digital 2d software they run away screaming.
When they see how cluttered the interface is and when I tell them that they need to load some more CP to get started (Chad's one for example) it is even worse.
At school we have a heavy discount on Digicel light and most people seem to prefer it to TV paint for its simpler interface. Obviously the 2 softwares are really different and TV paint can do much more but to me there is a really big market for softwares that don't scare people away and I would prefer to see TVpaint going into that direction

Hi oliveuk,
The biggest problem is, in a certain way, the versatility of the software.
As we can do almost everything (clean, sketch, colorizations, FX, ...) at any moment, we need to define some steps regarding the way to animate in TVPaint. (I can't explain how, it is still under development...
)
Anyway, it would really help us to have your feedback about the current interface and about your workflow ...
Please can you tell us what could be improved to make them simpler ?
(fi : which panel would you keep, delete or add to make the software more convenient to use ...)

yeah. selectable workspaces for common tasks would clean up the u.i
for the new users and those who want to perform specific tasks such as creating
1.a basic story board
2. 2d animatic in rough sketches
the wizard or selection panel would have options for resolution such as pal16:9 or ntsc or hd720 or hd1024 with frame rates as part of that wizard
same for 2d still work such as sketching, oils, watercolours again with a menu driven tick sheet to sort it all out
and of course..'custom'...which is what we have now.
