Brush Spreading FX causes crash on 4k or larger files

Sometimes I'm in the FX Stack working ona 4k or larger file and I accidentally select Brush Spreading FX . This causes TVPaint to freeze (endless rainbow beach ball spinning ... and then CRASH). Once selected there is no way to Escape from Brush Spreading. I think there needs to be some warning about Brush Spreading being used on large projects (4k or larger) with potential for freezing/crashing. Is there any way to use ESC key to get out of Brush Spreading FX if it is accidentally selected ? (or intentionally selected). I just lost an hours work because I had neglected to save for over an hour (my fault , I should have saved more frequently) because I accidentally selected Brush Spreading FX. It is frustrating because once the Brush Spreading FX is selected , there is no way to escape and then after having been frozen for a couple of minutes, the inevitable crash.
