TV Paint 11.7 Crashing computer

Anyone else have an issue with TvPaint 11.7 (Windows 10) crashing with large files?
Never had an issue before the update - so I switched back to 11.5.

Hi Sparkle,
I have not had any issues with the application crashing with either the initial 11.7.0 release in September or the hotfix from October. With the new 11.7.
1 release, however, it's crashed 3 times since installing it yesterday. TVPaint has been
extremely stable for me over the years so this is quite strange! Also, the crashes occurred while I was drawing with the standard Pencil Brush. When it happens, it doesn't freeze, TVPaint simply terminates without warning.
I've been able to somewhat reliably cause TVPaint 11.7.1 to crash just by scribbling fast in a new project with large(ish) dimensions of 5000x5000 pixels. Sometimes, in order to induce a crash, I've had to open a second large project and start scribbling again. The crash may come after 30 seconds but sometimes it takes a few minutes. But I've worked with even larger projects before (11.7.0 and older) without issue.
Thanks for the great update TVPaint team, lots of nice fixes in it
. Hopefully, we can figure out what's going on with these crashes. Otherwise, I'll have to go back to 11.7.0.

Thanks for the report, we'll run some tests to see if we can reproduce those crashes.
For the moment on Windows 11 I am not able to make it happen.
Cardin, are you on Windows or macOS?
Which resolution scaling setting are you using? Are you zoomed in or out?

Also, Cardin, can you put your config folder in a zip file and send it to me via PM ? On windows it's the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\tvp animation 11 pro folder, on macOS it's in Library/tvp animation 11 pro.
Then, make a copy of that folder (or move the original folder elsewhere) and try to start TVPaint again to see if you still have the crashes.
Also, are you using a tablet (Intuos, Cintiq) or just the mouse?

I've found that using the Key Framer for FX causes a crash.
(It doesn't happen when the FX panel is already displayed, it happens when you select Effects->Motion->Key Framer in the menu.)
Please check it.

Confirmed on my side.
We'll fix it for a hotfix next week.

Hi Thierry,
Not sure if you still need my info but here it is...
OS: Windows 10 (Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045)
Pen Tablet: Wacom Cintiq (drivers are current: 6.4.0-11, firmware: 1.7.0)
TVPaint resolution scaling: 1
Monitor/Cintiq resolution: 3840x2160
Zoomed IN or OUT: Hard to say since the crashes were sudden and without warning. The best I can say is that I'm confident that I was between 75% and 100% Zoom level.
Sent a PM about my config folder. I'll also do as you advised - copy the config folder and report back if the issue persists.
Thanks, Thierry!

Update: Figured out what was causing the crashes for me:
TVPaint 11.7.1 crashes whenever RIGHT CLICK is used as eraser mode AND Line Smoothing is Activated with TYPE set to Average Points. The crash occurs when using a Wacom Stylus (pen button set to "RIGHT CLICK") or when using a MOUSE. I tested this on a default config at varying project sizes. Same behavior.
I reinstalled 11.7.0 and had no issues using Right Click to erase, so I think this may have something to do with the new feature introduced in 11.7.1 : "Line smoothing is now deactivated when switching to eraser."
Additional Notes: Crash only seems to occur with the following brush tools: Pen, Pencil, Mechanical Pencil, Air Brush, Wet Brush, and Special Brush. For some reason, Oil, Text, and Custom Brush don't cause a crash when rick click is used as eraser.

For me the crash was happening on a very large background - 16535 x 8536. Mainly when I was using the Colour and texture layer. I can work with the same size project in TVP 11.5 with no issue.

Did the 11.7.1 hotfix ever get released ? The version of 11.7.1 that I have still crashes if any of the FX Stack functions are accessed via the menu vs opening them using the 'magic hat' icon.
I think there were some other fixes that were also going to be addressed (for example: use Return/Enter key to Reapply Stroke in
Erase mode , and something else that I forget right now ...)

Hello,
Yes, we uploaded the hotfix yesterday. It did came out a bit later than what we wanted but we found a few "under the hood" issues that we had to fix.
I will post the small changelog later today.

The 11.7.1 hotfix resolved the issue I was having with TVP crashing when invoking Eraser Mode using RMB.
The hotfix release notes also indicate accessing FX via the FX Main menu instead of the FX Stack no longer crashes the software (identified by Hironori Takagi in this thread).
Not sure about Sparkle's issue but the two above seem to be resolved. Thanks, TVP!

Tvpaint under Linux (TVPaint 11.7.1 STD Pro on Linux Manjaro KDE) also crashes for me when I select the same brushes
