TVP and Vista 64bit.

Post by MrChoy »

Well, the time has come to think about a new machine so that is just what I am doing :D

Current favourite is a quad core core duo running Vista 64bit. Is there anyone here running anything like this and do you think I'll have any problems running TVP - especially on Vista 64.?

Any thoughts welcome at this point.

MrChoy: I would advise against Vista64 bit, simply because Vista limits opengl performance by 50%! This and many other problems.

I would go XP64 bit if I were you..

Hi Chad.
I went vista 32 in the end. Not bad at all apart from the retarded User account manager.

you can turn off the account manager and all the 'glossy' rubbish in vista..i have vista 32bit business at work and i'm slowly turning it back into a more usable pc with disabling many so called 'features' of vista.

def go n kill super fetch as it'll murder your hard drive...make it work overtime for no good reason.

OpenGL is hampered in speed by 30-50% in Vista. One reason I will never switch!

there's things you can do to get open gl back upto speed in vista

including rolling it back to xppro if you REALLY have to! [vista ultimate only]

i'll be trying it 'as is' for a start on my new pc when it turns up but will most probably be turning off aero graphics and turning the u.i. theme back to windows 2000 to get more screen space...also turning off the 20 questions vista like to ask you every hour!

From what I understand, open gl will be inhibited from running beyond version 2.1 .. If you know of these patches I would love to know!
Spent a lot of money for 2 copies of Vista Ultimate some while ago..
