That's some awesome news, for TVPaint but also for 2D animation in general.

See the black thing on his Wacom pen? Looks like a sponge or something.
Anyone using something like this?
My guess is this is a homemade accessory - anyone have any advice
for finding a spongey thing I can drill a hole into to slip my
Wacom pen through?
Most sponges are kind of soft - but I would prefer a hard sponge.
Crazy question, but maybe someone can help?

It’s probably one of those spongy pencil grips. In the US they’re available at office supply stores but I’m sure you could buy some online.

Thanks!
It also occurred to me that these might be sold in art supply stores.

I wondered about this when I watched the videos last week. There are a few articles online about how having a 'fat' grip is more ergonomic because it shifts the tension to the hand muscles, putting less strain on the fingers.
The only problem with using a foam wrap on a
digital stylus is that it blocks the finger switches. Users who use this mod use the keyboard buttons instead of the pen buttons.
If you want a commercial option designed specifically for Wacom pens that allows you to use the finger switches, there's this:

I haven't used one of these but thinking of getting one...or coming up with my own homebrew version.
Here's a link to one of the articles I found:

You could take an xacto knife and cut out a slot for the side switches? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes but if the padding is equally thick around the stylus, a deep slot may defeat the ergonomic reason for doing this. You could try it but I imagine it won't be very comfortable. I believe this is why users doing this are using the keyboard for buttons.
The commercial one in the link works around this problem by off-setting the volume of the padding.

"Kitbull" is nominated for Best Animated Short Film at this year's Academy Awards. This is the second year in a row that an animated film made with TVPaint has been nominated for Best Animated Short Film (last year was "Animal Behaviour" by Alison Snowden and David Fine) .
