I am requesting that the Text Tool be added to Timeline Notes so notes may be typed as well as hand-written notes.

But please don't abandon handwritten notes because that's the best way to annotate accents, changing volume of voiceover, shifting moods.... on and on, even little drawings of facial expressions and squiggly lines and other symbols to annotate music.

Oh, yes, certainly ! I did not mean replace the hand written notes , but rather add the Text tool to augment the Timeline Notes .

So I'm curious; what's it for? to make general notes between collaborators when projects are shared? Actually I do that too, for instance to warn Sandra that some images are using tracker. it makes sense

A text tool in the notes area is considered and in our To-Do List.

In the meantime, we made a small George script to add some text in the notes area:

Notes Text.tvpx
(152.5 KiB) Downloaded 1144 times

The text will be added as pixels and handled as the usual notes.

type your text.png
type your text.png (2.49 KiB) Viewed 21409 times

"Notes 3 lines" will allow you to write 3 lines of text. But 3 lines only.

If you make a selection of one or several images, your text will fit the selection.

Yes, exactly that kind of thing is what I would use it for . Lately I've been working on a project remotely where the director sends me notes via email and rather than keep his emails open and keep referring back to the emails I would like to copy & paste his notes into the Timeline with a text tool .

Hey, D.T! This worked for me.

Right Click on the icon

Hit the drop down menu on line zero and select "Embedded George Script"

You can change the font size here

OR, the following change will make the tool a bit more flexible I think. This will make it so the text tool is not changed to the parameters specified in the original code. So the settings you had before you activated the function will persist.

It even retains many of the parameters from the text tool like border, glow, and angle.

Thank you , kind sir !

It is true that in almost all cases "anything is possible in TVPaint" , so thanks for affirming that .
