You probably were on driver 512.
Final note: After working with 514 for a full day now I must say that I am happy with it and would recommend anyone to upgrade -- as long as they don't need to use both the grip pen and the classic pen with W4; that needs fixing.

Thanks for the correction, yes.

Just for the record -- the latest driver for Wacom-4, 614-3, is no good for two pens, one of which is the classic (and I believe is no good, period but can't prove it). What Asaf has described in his Wacom driver posts more or less supports my own bad experiences and he does not have the classic pen as far as I know. At times I have thought I have everything under control, until some small matter of operating other apps on my computer threw apart the whole tenuous house of cards (using a Logitech mouse, for instance, which Wacom man says "We don't have around here").
Having spent altogether three lengthy conversations with ITs on the Wacom phone line who never came up with any helpful solutions lasting more than a week, I have made the big step backward, returning to driver 611-3, which is the one my Wacom4 came with, and I am once more happy... that one does work for me without a hitch. The one thing I do miss a lot however is the Wacom Preferences utility that comes with the two recent upgrades. Maybe I should donate Wacom a Logitech mouse to work with on the next upgrade.

Hahaha I have spent maybe an hour with WACOM tech support on two separate occasions and been in their forums, never to receive any sort of satisfactory help.
In the end, I devoted several weeks of programming time to fix their crap drivers.

There's a
new driver available for the Intuos3/4 tablets.

Not that new for me and it's exactly the one I can't use because it won't let me use a grip pen and a classic pen at the same time. To be able to do that I had to step way back to version 611-3 (yet Wacom was happy to sell me the classic pen for $67.00).

There's a new driver available (vers; 6.1.6-7) on the
Wacom website.
I haven't installed it yet, though....
Edit: Oh, I found a thread on
another forum which indicates that the new driver might not work very well...

WACOM makes the best graphics tablets in existence despite offering the worst in drivers and technical support. Their monopoly over the tablet market (patents) leaves us with few suitable alternatives.
I despise them, their ancestors and most distant relatives with a seething passion and will continue to do so until the heat death of the universe occurs.

Wacom has a new driver out (6.1.7-3 - 13 Sep 2011). Any experiences whether this one works properly?
I am a bit hesitant to install it...

OK, done. It's fantastic and does what they promise. I downloaded and installed right over the old one without a hitch (a Wacom miracle!) I didn't have to reboot (a Wacom miracle!) Nothing happened to my settings (a Wacom double dip wonder!) The touch ring performs as promised: greater sensitivity and can't outrun TVP (I'm on 32bits) no matter how hard I try, and draws like a charm. After testing for ten minutes I declare this just might be their best upgrade so far. The real test will of course come when I download and install a new program and reboot. For that you must wait for a couple of years. There -- go ahead, do it!

Wacom Intuos4 driver (under Windows 7) - Any reports on the new driver 6.2.0w4.exe (Jan 25, 2012)?
I'm about to install my Intuos4 on a new laptop running windows 7 and I'm debating on using driver 6.1.7-3 or the Jan25th release.

Hmmm... didn't know about this -- I have everything working OK with going BACK to 6.1.6-5 after having trouble with 6.1.7.-3. I think I am going to pass...
