I tried all of that and it made no difference. The data rate can be set to 10 as well as to 40 - it doesn't matter. Pressing the Compute button makes no difference. "Play all" is set, but unchecking make no difference.
Since the project is in HDTV, I suspected a memory issue and tried it in a new project in 240 x 320px. It is still the same odd behavior, if maybe a bit less pausing at the end of a loop.
Another issue: only the "no proxy" setting gives me the full resolution, the other two only show a strongly pixelated image which is not useful for checking small drawings. I thought the data rate settings were a substitute for the old half and quarter resolution button, but whatever I enter there, the view stays the same.
(If I add that my machine is a Dual 1,8 GHz G5 PPC with 1,5 GB RAM, would please everybody refrain from shouting "just get a faster machine"? Thank you.)

You could get a faster machine than a Dual 1,8 GHz G5 PPC with 1,5 GB RAM... just kidding.
But I tried to replicate your problem on two machines we have here and all I got was Tony's problem, a fast jump to the first frame, not the delayed jump you get, so I'd say it isn't a problem of the software.

Well, maybe I wouldn't even had noticed if this thing hadn't worked flawlessly in mirage, so I say it's a software thing, obviously ...
Anyway, I don't expect a fast solution today with this, but a solution would be nice. In the meantime, back to our regular animation schedule. I try to finish some leftovers for a screening next week.

Computer technology is as imperfect as we humans are. We are all different from each other. I have a quirk like yours going on now, where TVP's browser hangs when it scans a certain file type. This doesn't happen with any three of my other TVP/Mirage versions; only with the current Beta version. It can't be replicated by anyone else either, so to me that makes it clearly not a software problem but some quirky imbalance in my computer. It's easy to avoid though by just storing a couple of files out of the way of the scanner.
How can your or my issues be software problems if no one else experiences them? Everyone has the same software but not two people have the same computer with the same settings, loaded with the same applications etc., etc. Computers are just like us, never perfect.

Slowtiger,
How many layers do you need to loop? Can you capture the cycle as an animbrush, and spread it out over more frames? I wonder if the looping problem happens when applied as an animbrush as well.

It occurs with even only one layer switched visible.
Animbrushes are no problem as well as setting the clip to "repeat".

it's frustrating to have problems like this, in which it works great in 8.5, but in 9.0 is a nagging issue.
I have such problem with sound. When I scrub sounds in 8.5 it works like a charm, but in 9.0 I get a choppy, blocky lagging sound. I initially blamed the vista's compatibility with drivers, but actually the bottom line is that 8.5 on this exact machine and system gives good results, and 9.0 gives something to wish for. I am experiencing this problem on my TabletPC and on my desktop the same.
as for the preview quality in 'proxy' and 'render' modes, try this: Hit CTRL+D (is it APPLE+D on a mac?) to bring up the Magic Number dialogue. then type number 18 in the box. And choose high quality previews. let us know if it made any difference.

I also have the same problem with the playback on my demo version of TVP 9 Pro - Actually a bit frustrating, since I havent experienced it at all with the 8.0 or 8.5. Also there is a delay of the line when I am drawing in zoom mode from 400% and over (this also never occured in 8.0 or 8.5) - am I the only one who has had this problem? Maybe it has something to do with my computer, but if so I don't get it why there isn't anything wrong with the other versions. Sad to say so - but it makes me a bit confused whether or not i should invest in the 9 or not. I hope that this is something that is sorted out by the time I buy it.
Until then, good luck fixing the things - happy hunting, and carry on animating!

Hi there,
Thanks for reporting us those problems.
We are currently a bit busy with the Ottawa Animation International Festival, but we will do our best to study and solve each problem next week.
Thanks for the video Markus, it helped us to have a good description of the problem.
Stay in touch.

Yup, that's one of the many things I like about the TVPaint Team, it consists of serviceminded professionals, with an absolutely outstanding product that they are 100% passionated about, always out there listening to the beat, and always improving and making it better. We're lucky to have it - we're lucky to have them.

Did I say outstanding? I meant amazing.

- The last image of a project is now played at the correct speed.
This sentence from the 9.0.3 release announcement made me hope for resolving the problem, but I experience still the same playback bug in 9.0.3. Even worse: it seems I can't playback in full resolution anymore, no matter which of the 3 settings of the preview panel I chose.

Markus, do you by any chance have Preview Proxy set in the Preview Settings? I think TVP 9.3 comes with this as its default because I had the same scare as you have and I know I hadn't set anything to Proxy.
