Yes Sierra - I hear you. Thanks for the compliment on the book.

My illustrated work is insanely detailed and always has been, as that is the style I fell in love with as a child and so I've always worked with it. I'm working on my second illustrated book that will be for adults, called "Dark Thoughts", a tongue-in-cheek Edward Gorey style work. There's some excerpts from it here: http://anim8torcathy.deviantart.com/

As much as my illustrative style works for books, I need to create or learn a secondary style for animation. Something that lends itself to movement and simplicity of line. As I mentioned earlier - this is the 'old dog - new tricks' challenge for me.

I think you should be able to learn something from animation that you will be able to bring back to your illustration work. You should gain a better sense of space. The lady in the chair with her back to us has no space between her chair and the table. If you would have to animate her sitting down into that position you would find out how that works, or why it doesn't -- or it might work the other way around and turn into a pretty good visual gag.

Wow Paul - I never noticed that about that picture before - good catch! I'll have to fix that.

Thanks!

This is what happens to me too -- I hate seeing my old stuff and won't look at it if possible since it's usually too late to fix anything.
