To do nodal compositing in 2016 : why not using Nuke or Fusion or Nadron ? Is there any advantage using ToonZ ?
Because IT'S 2016. Ghibli need not to replace and learn any other software.

Ghibli founded for only MIYAZAKI and TAKAHATA and they retired from directon.
They abolish to coach the younger generation from 2010, and expelled (said SUZUKI Toshio, the Ghibli general producer) all animator, cameraman, engineer and programmer in 2014 (Princess Kaguya made by only Kaguya studio in 8 years).

"A Japanim studio Ghibli" became the end.

It's true, we tend to forget what time it was. In 1992 I started to work on a Quantel Paintbox which could do PAL TV resolution, wow! And Photoshop was version 1.5 - no layers. Later the studio had both Animo and Toonz licenses, when Animo was still a vector animation program (like AnimeStudio today), the Ink & Paint modul was added later.

Forget my question, I will compare ToonZ and other software nodal compositing by myself, when I have some free time.
Then I will know the ins and outs of each products options.

I guess it comes in handy to do the compositing in the same software you animate, cause you can try different things while animating, without exporting everything. In blender you can do the match-move, compositing, edit etc. all in one software and I'm sure a lot of people use it for another workflow than the usual.
But while trying to offer anything there is always the risk to become a bloated battleship like Photoshop, which got thousand features and only hundred are regularly used by the majority.

Nuke and Fusion are a bit overkill for frame by frame animation though. I've always used the inbuilt one in Harmony, then I switched to using Blender, then switched to AE now I've switched to using Toonz, it's really good. I've switched away from AE to Toonz because Toonz handles MLAA better than the OLM plugins I was using in AE. I am surprised at just how good Toonz is at compositing, it has everything I would need from Nadron, I could even composite 3DCG using multi passes.

Another software Toonz has replaced for me is Retas since Toonz handles color line fill for raster and I may leave behind Harmony and Anime Studio too, the interpolation in Toonz is really good and easily adjustable, easy making fire loops and stuff and easy to renumber on the x-sheet. Having an inbuilt compositor is good for this because if I add a myriad of fx to fire I can tweak the interpolation, renumber and edit it altogether at the same time. You will be able to do this in Blender soon too.

  • 他のオープンソース・無償ノード編集映像合成ソフトは欧米の業界用語を英語UIで提供している。
  • 一方Toonz・OpenToonzのノード編集機能は日本語UIと日本の業界用語をサポートしている。
    日本語マニュアルが用意されていない現在の状況でも最低限の操作法さえ理解出来れば、あとは日本語表記をなぞって習得できる。
  • TVPaint AnimationがIntel HD GPUチップ環境でも軽快に動作するように—
    推奨スペックが個人の手の届く範囲に(低く)抑えられている。
    競合ソフトは非破壊編集を前提とした業務用ワークステーション規模のスペックを要求しており、それはオープンソース化・機能制限つきで無償化されても変わらない。
カレ・ド・ロレーヌ/Carré de Lorraineをスライスするのに十徳ナイフ/Victorinox Swiss Army knifeを取り出したりしませんよね?
