Line tool improvement

Post by Peter Wassink »

i need to make a drawing with a distinct look, namely that the lines are build from straight lines.

i can use the line tool.
put down a line then carefully place the pen on the endpoint of that line and put down a new end point, this is rather cumbersome to get accurate.
my request:
tvpaint could easily hold the coordinates of the endpoint and use these as the beginpoint. For instance by using the CTRL-key
(now line tool only uses the Shift-key as a modifier key.... to snap vertical and horizontal)
So what you would see is a straight line and then the red UI line between the endpoint of that line and the cursor, by putting down the pen the new straight segment is placed.

so by holding CTRL in combination with the line-tool i could very quickly generate a line consisting of straight segments.
i tried using the grid so the end and beginpoints would snap, but this limits the drawing freedom too much.

Peter,
Doesn't the Bezier Spline option already give you that?

not quite
the bezier tends to bend the lineparts (its almost impossible to make straight lines)
and also ... it doesn't display the result until after you apply it.

although it will be fantastic if tvpaint would let you create a triangular grid, with a similar ui set up. which would then function as a guide....
so i can draw ofter that grid manually with any tool i like..... hmmm

i´d like a functionality like this in the line tool:

basically what i am looking for now is a way to create/simulate a triangular mesh within tvpaint.
this kind of stuff: http://cdn2.digitalartsonline.co.uk/cms ... AT_015.jpg
Its an illustration gimmic that is very poular at the moment.
it gives this very low poly feel.

as you can see a way of snapping to the brake points would also be very helpfull.

ok...i realise... all in all a rather big request :?

If it is something you need now, give Bezier Curve a serious try. It CAN make perfectly straight lines, especially if you use a mouse. Pressing the Enter Key immediately turns the point/line chain into a stamped finished line (you don't even have to close the shape). It's a very fast way to build complex meshes, especially snapping to Guideline Marks.
