Hi,
After hearing from studio owners around the world, that TVPaint is great while working alone, it is not well all adapted to working in groups. It is something I feel would be very beneficial to think about and develop.
To my knowledge there are no 2D software that are designed for teamwork. Most of them focus on single work station but lack a system to share, re-use and transfer assets created by one artist to another in a quick and easy way.
I am aware that this request is a big one and that most people on this forum work alone so it might not interest anyone. I really hope the developpers while think about this or maybe they are already.
group work
Re: group work
I would reword it carefully: TVP doesn't automatically add any workflow/teamwork abilities which the artists don't think about. A good production manager could do that part as good as any software.
If software is used for the production manager's tasks, it boils down to 4 basic features:
- version control
- file locking
- permission management
- backup management.
Some studios use external software to manage their animation projects with it, some even write their own, which is a good idea especially in a mixed environment (different operating systems and versions).
In an animation software these 4 basic features need to be implemented, an in szuch a way that it supports as many operating systems and versions as possible, and any possible network configuration. This is quite the task, and the reason why commercial animation solutions for studios are that pricey.
Aside from that, TVP would need to introduce some new file types, like colour palettes which can be locked by one user but read by others, and some new properties, like projects which have to be signed/approved by some instance before anybody could continue to work with them. I believe this would change the software in some parts dramatically.

Re: group work
We already are, since the software is currently used for both TV series and features films involving a lot of people.I am aware that this request is a big one and that most people on this forum work alone so it might not interest anyone. I really hope the developpers while think about this or maybe they are already.
