Improving Rooms
Rooms is a potentially powerful feature but it leaves quite some ....room...( ) for improvement.
i'd like for instance the option to switch off the sidedrawers in one of the rooms but when i do this in the preferences they are gone in all the rooms.
annoying i have to put back all the now floating panels back in their spot as if my bookcase had fallen over.
this is how i find out... drawers are global....
so we also need some way to tell which preference item is global and which is room dependant.
my proposal is to turn the preference panel into something like this:
see image: this way you get a clear overview off what room has what preference and you can set all rooms at once in a single preference panel session

Re: Improving Rooms
May I add to Peter's excellent proposal a little suggestion!?
can the rooms buttons be replaced on top right of the software window instead of bottom right? and maybe flip the order of the buttons?
like from here
to here
Thanks

Re: Improving Rooms
I like the idea a lot Peter, but I fear that it might be too confusing for a new user to see so many buttons to check.
I think it would be better to have some pop-ups instead of the checkboxes :
@Habashtvpaint : The area on top of the software is reserved to the project tabs, if you have a lot of projects opened, it would be strange to see the rooms buttons here.

Re: Improving Rooms
Thanks Thierry, Its true, I guess I never had many projects opened at the same time to realise how the space can be occupied. cheers.Thierry wrote:I like the idea a lot Peter, but I fear that it might be too confusing for a new user to see so many buttons to check.

Ok, to do listed.

Problem is there are already lots of tabs and pop-ups in there...Thierry wrote:I like the idea a lot Peter, but I fear that it might be too confusing for a new user to see so many buttons to check.

Or make the "room 2-3-4" collapsible?

Re: Improving Rooms
Nice to see such a positive response!
but more seriously... what do the 4 tick boxes in your example do precisely?
i can't see their logic function.
i agree my proposal is busy for the eye but i don't think it is very confusing.
it gives the rooms a much more prominent spot in the preferences, and everyone here agrees they need and deserve this!
yeah!Elodie wrote:Ok, to do listed.
i find your example actually more confusing then mine ( well off course i would )Thierry wrote:I like the idea a lot Peter, but I fear that it might be too confusing for a new user to see so many buttons to check.

Re: Improving Rooms
I have to say; I like Peter's suggestion better because I find it clearer. It is instantly recognizable what the checkmarks are selecting for the different rooms. Also, I don't like it that in Thierry's suggestion the settings for the rooms are 'hidden' behind a pulldown, if you know what I mean...

Re: Improving Rooms
i just noticed that each room has it s own keyboard shortcuts map. Though i can see why this can be useful, it s also a bit of a pain to reload the map 4 times each time your make a change, or i am getting this wrong ? ... maybe there could be a way of have a "same as room x" option for each room that if checked would automatically follow the shortcuts of the specified room, and if not the room ould have it s own ?
