Double Click speed of my pen tablet is so tricky

Post by Zetariver »

Hello. I am using Wacom Intuos 3.
When I am trying to single click a layer of layer panel to activate it, Tvpaint often thinks it's double click and "Rename Layer" dialogue box pops up.3 out of 10 times, single click gets to be double click.
In photoshop when I single click layer, it's ok. Photoshop think it's single click always. I have 2 intuos 3 tablet(main and sub tablet. both work fine.) and tried to use sub tablet and single clicked layer in TVpaint, but nothing changes.
Do you know why? I can't find a way to control double click speed of TVpaint.

And 3 more questions about layer panel and pen tool.
Is there any way to display full layer name of collapsed layer? Layer opacity bar hides layer name when it's collapsed.
And can I disable "merge layer function" when I move layers in layer panel? I merge them from Layer menu.
It makes it hard to move layers in layer panel. It's something like Opera web browsers"tab stacking" function.

And about pen tool. When I try to draw, pen tool works oddly sometimes. I mean, when I try to draw using pen tool it only draws straight lines. It's something like Shift key is always pushed. Do you know what is the culprit of this action?
When this crazy pen behaviour stars, I always close project and reopen it, after that it works fine again.

I can't say something about the double-click speed of TVPaint. I never noticed something weird about it.
  • The stripped off layer names are something which annoys me too, it's already on the to-do-list, but It seems to be a very long list.
  • Another point which drove me nuts at first, but if you move a layer you need to be sure there appears a indication line between to layers to drop it.
  • The straight lines are really strange. Are you sure you didn't accidentally switched tools?

Make a search for "Layer Finder" by Svengali and this is what you may get:

I use it all the time.

Thank you for your comment.Layer panel needs more sophistication.
Weirdo double clicking speed will be caused by my hardware + software setting or something. Ok.I give up.
And about straight lines, I never change tools. it's strange.

I already downloaded "Layer Finder". Thank you Paul.

The straight lines are really weird. The tool-switch was only a wild guess. Have you tried to switch to another app, like photoshop if it happened? If it occurs there too it may be something like a driver issue.
If not it's really something the developer should look at.

I wish to help but I don't understand this sentence.
What is a main and a sub tablet ?
If necessary, feel free to write in japanese, we can translate.

Some elements to test :
Have you changed the shortcuts in TVPaint ?
Have you changed the shortcuts in the Wacom drivers ?
What happen if you use an other Stylus ?
What happen if you use an other Tablet ?
What happen if you use an other Keyboard ?
What happen if you use an other drivers version ?

I think "sub" is meant as "secondary" or less used; not the main, everyday one.

I don't check what happens if I switch to other application.I will check it too.

I changed shortcuts in TVpaint and Wacom driver.
I will check other things you suggested.Thank you.
And one more thing I had to say. There were 2 project tabs, project A and project B in TVpaint, and when this straight line lock happened in project A I tried to draw in project B, and I could draw normally, so I thought something in TVpaint did that like stencil or something.
But I think it's caused by wacom, I am not 100% sure, but when I push tablet buttons(side switches of wacom pen), this straight line lock occurred. But this is not a serious problem. I only need to reopen the project file to draw normally, and this rarely happens.

And thank you Paul. It's what I wanted to say. I wanted to say Main tablet and secondary tablet.

Maybe something in the tablet or stylus parameter is linked to the hotkey [Shift] ?
That could explain the straight line.

I don't assIgn any keys to my pen, I think it's wacom eraser that causes this problem.
I talked about it the other day here.

I recorded odd pen lock situation. See this video. A is normal pen action, and B is the locked pen action.
I draw them normally.
I found out that when this pen lock occurs and I draw lines so fast, lines are modified by something like line smoothing, and pen pressure setting of penBrush size is ignored.(I only set pen pressure to size factor in penBrush.I set none to power of penBrush.)Do you know anything that will do this in TVpaint?

really strange ...
Could it be the line smoothing activation ?

I really wonder if it happen with an other tablet/stylus/driver model.

I remember someone having a bluetooth wacom tablet with a damaged bluetooth signal.
But you have an Intuos3, so it can't be that.

I deactivated smoothing option.
I tried to use mouse to draw lines when this lock occurred, and mouse drew odd lines too, just like B situation in my movie.
So, I think Wacom pen tablet hardware is ok, but software, wacom driver may be the problem.

maybe is there something like on tabletPC :
On tabletPC, sometimes the drivers try to detect a "long click" or a long "stylus touch" on the screen, then it create problems with strange strokes.
This was fixed by changing the drivers options.

btw, what happen if you uncheck "wintab" in the preferences ?

I tried older wacom iutuos drivers, but nothing changes.
I unchecked subpixel and checked wintab and line lock occurred.
OK I will check what will happen if both options are unchecked.
