Very long to find network, for saving, importing anything!

Post by LorenzoBE »

Hi there!

I have had this issue for a long time now, but as I am using TV paint more it is becoming very frustrating.

If I go to "save project as" or want to import footage or audio or anything that requires going on to the network to find a specific drive it takes TVPaint at least 1-2 minutes to find the network. In other applications on the same computer it is instant.

I have recently upgraded, but I still have the same issue.

I am working on a windows 7. for example if I want to save to "Z:\!!data\animation_project\tv_paint\leica_rotos" I have to wait for a long time for the application to find the network, so I get the little blue circle spinning and at the top of the application window it says TV Paint (not responding) and then after about a 1 to 2 minutes it finds the path and then I can save the project as or import something. But It does this everytime.

It is very frustrating any help will be much appreciated.

Another issue is with the audio playback, it is very crunchy and tinny, I have imported audio at 48HZ 16-bit and 24-bit WAVs, but the audio plays back very badly. Maybe I have missed something in the setup.

Thank you!
Lorenzo

Welcome here. But....
When you have an issue with TVPaint Animation, please, don't forget to precise important details :

• What is your OS and its version :

- Mac OSX 10.4 (Tiger) 10.5 (Leopard), 10.6 (Snow Leopard), 10.7 (Lion), 10.8 (Mountain Lion), etc...
- Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, etc...
- Linux Ubuntu 10.04+, Debian 6+, RedHat Entreprise Linux 5+, Fedora 15+

• What is your OS architecture (32 or 64 bit)

• What is your software version (for example : Mirage 1.5, TVPaint 9.5.21, TVPaint 10.0.11, etc...)

• What is your software edition (Standard or Professional)

• For the Professional Edition of TVPaint 10 : What is the architecture (32 or 64 bit) ?
I don't have such a problem with TVPaint Animation 10.5.4 Professional Edition 64 bit with Maverick 64 bit.

I have never come across anyone having the saving delay problem either.
The sound issue might be that your Sampling Rate in Preferences does not match the rate of your imported sound file.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the reply , but I have matched the sample rate to the audio imported.

Maybe the initial software DVD I installed was corrupt. Because no one else seems to have this problem.
But there is a first time for everything.

you have two problems here :

1) the slow network (which is probably not linked to TVPaint)

2) the playback.

What is your config ? Is it strong enough to handle your files ?

What are your proxy settings ?

Did you preload the images and sound you use ?

Hi Fabrice,

The computer is fast enough to handle the project.

Two: Intel XEON E5530 @2.4GHz processors
12 gb of ram

The network issue only happens with TVPaint, if I open Photoshop or any other application, they all find the path instantly only TV paint takes a long time to find it.

I am not quite sure I know what you are talking about with the proxy settings. All I do is go to "Clip"-"load Sound" and make sure the the sample rate is the same ie:48 Hz and then press play and the sound plays but very badly with a crunching tinny sound.

Thanks,
Lorenzo

Your path names indicate you might be rotoscoping... how are you loading the live action footage? I think this is what Fabrice means by "Proxy".

The path file is just an example. I will normal import a jpeg sequence wait for it to load and then load the sound as a wav.

But really my main problem here is the time it takes TVPaint to find the network, as previously mentioned, all other applications work fine, it is only TVpaint that takes for ever to find a path.

Maybe I am not being very clear in the way I have tried to explain what is going on.

If I go to save project as or import footage the network search window appears, but it is blank, I then get a blue spinning ring for about 2 minutes and at the top of the TVpaint window it has (not responding). After 2 minutes the network search window then finds everything, all drives, all folders etc. BUT this only happens in TVPaint, if I open any other application ie. photoshop, AE, Maya etc etc. They all find the network instantly. No problems.

Thanks.

Sorry, I was talking about the "Preview Settings" panel.

Regarding the network : are you using the "TVPaint file requester" or the "System file requester" ?
What happen if you change in the Preferences ?

Thank you! Fabrice that was it.

I was using the "TVPaint file requester", but now using the "System file requester" it finds everything straight away. GREAT!!!

Thanks again!

still having a problem with the sound quality. I have the preview settings on render background proxy and quality at 100%. Nothing else is selected and flipbook at 1.00s. I have tried selecting the force proxy, but it does not do anything to the sound.

There is maybe a bug on our side.
Thanks for the feedback.

What about the proxy/playback issue ? Did you check the panel I mentionned ?
