thumbnails in windows explorer

Post by malcooning »

I used to see thumbnails for .tvp files in windows explorer, but now I don't seem to get them anymore. How can I restore that?

Hi Malcooning,

Try to re-launch the software installer, you should see a "TVP thumb" option.

Hi Asaf,
The thumbnail viewer is managed by a dynalic library (dll). This library is activate by the installer when you install the software and is deactivate when you uninstall it.
The solution Fabrice gives you is the best I think. Try the repair option.

I have GRP version 8.1.1 installed on windows Vista, and when I run the installer and choose 'modify', I get no "tvp thumb". I used to get it with the previous tvp version I had installed on xp, but now i don't know where to find it.
I've tried to uninstall and reinstall, but through the setup I didn't find the tvp option.
is there a way to just drop a .dll file somewhere in the system to get thumbnails working?

Hi Asaf, the thumbnail dll is included into the "Main program" option. Have you try to re-install it?

You won't see anything refering to this since the dll is automatically installed.
Try to make a research on your system about TVPThumbnail.dll and check if it is correctly copied onto your system.
Please let us know then.

I made a search and found no tvpthumbnail.dll.
in fact, I searched for any dll file that has tvp in it and found only two files: tvpaint_qt.dll and tvpaint_mms.dll.
funnily, I searched in my xp system too, and found no such dll there either, although I did use to get thumbnails for tvp files there.

Where should this dll naturally be? system32?

cheers for the help.

yes, C:/Windows/system32/ folder.
if it has disappeared, a re-install should bring it back.
btw, why to be so hurry to go with vista?
isn't that a bit too early?

Hmm... I've NEVER had the TVPaint thumbnails working for me, either... The Repair option doesn't put the TVPThumbnail.dll file into my C:\Windows\system32 directory...

I found no TVPThumbnail.dll file anywhere, hidden files and system files. I did numerous searches (you know, in windows you still have to do much of it manually...), but still couldn't find the file?
do you reckon if you send me the file and I just slam it down in system32 folder, will it do the job?

No, you need to register the file in order to activate it. The installer registers the dll when installing and unregisters it when uninstalling.
