Maybe:
while working with the light table, use a previous frame as a stencil? This makes sense to me, it's for stuff like feet on the ground which tend to slip when re-drawn a lot of times. So far I put those on extra layers. A "use prev/next drawing as stencil" mode would help.

No, it's just that when trying to understand that request I was reminded on my own thoughts about this.

That, and decades of dealing with clients.

This thread seems to focus on the understanding of the post then on it's content, but it really seems like an useful idea.

I think Slowtiger got it right - use the light table as stencil to quickly redraw parts of previous or next drawings would be a good addition!

You can also use the Spare function for this.

This sounds intriguing and certainly plausible; would you describe step by step?

I think the process neonnoodle is evocating is :
copy previous (or next) instance to the Spare buffer (these functions could be buttonized in a custom panel),
then, on the current instance, use a drawing tool in Merge mode.

just to mention it, alternatively, to keep f.i. feet of your animated character steady on the ground (not jagging), you can use a drawing tool in Panto mode as well, by setting panto source on "Previous" (image).
