Lightbox/delayed instance images?

Post by Tonymation »

Hi. I'm a brand new user so this is a really basic question and I'm sorry if its kind of insulting. I've imported a pencil test into a lower layer and am now rendering, frame-by-frame, on the layer above. However, as I move onto the next instance (frame?) the previous one remains. It does this every successive frame I work on - leaving a mass of images on the screen at the same time. I know that this is probably a lightbox issue but I've just about tried every button/drop-down menu on the interface and nothing seems to remove it. Can anyone help please? I know the solution is probably drop-dead simple but my head and eyes hurts trying to resolve it. Thanks anyone and everyone... and 'hi', nice to meet you all!

Hi Paul.

I have TVP Animation 10 Pro (10.0.7) and I'm on a Mac (v10.7.4). Thanks!

Hi Tony! Nice to see ya here!

It sounds like, instead of creating a new instance for the next frame that maybe you are extending the exposure of the previous instance so it's repeating. Could you post a screenshot of what your layers look like when this happens?

Hmmmm? You could be right Brett! I'm dragging the first frame to the end of the pencil test, which is obviously wrong.

Sorry, brain-dead question.... How do I create a new instance for each frame then? I was confused how this works, compared to (say) ToonBoom, etc.

Thanks for responding!

P.S. I wish there was a good manual on TVP, instead of scattered and random tutorials online, etc. Is there one anywhere?

There sure is a manual, and some example files to try out.

http://www.tvpaint.com/v2/content/artic ... /index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you draw on an exposure that belongs to an instance that isn't the head exposure (the first frame of the instance), it will automatically create a new instance, but will still keep the content that was there. You can use Control-K (or click on the skull icon) to delete the contents and start with a blank 'cel'.

May I add that the manual is now divided in lessons for a better use.

The one about instances, lighttable, etc ... is here :

Thanks everyone, you've been great! I'm on my way now. So much to learn but at least I've got some actual movement happening now! I'm sure I'll be back but I promise to not ask any more basic questions of you.

the best (and the simplest) way when you are up to render (clean) a pre-timed pencil-test is to use one of the button from the Animator Panel specially dedicated for this task : it's called "Layer/Duplicated Layer and Clear Heads", so in one clic, all the instances you need are there, perfectly synch with your rough animation, ready to be "filled" with your clean version,
but you still have to manually draw the cleans, this magical button won't do it for you ...! :)
