Your disk may be too full,no such file or directory [solved]

Post by CharlieC »

hello all-
can anyone shed light on this reoccurring issue (using TVP 8.6.1, on a macbook pro, processor 2.53 intel core 2 duo, 4 GB memory):

sometimes when i try to save a large TVP project the saving stalls out and i get a dialogue box that says "your disk may be too full, no such file or directory. retry or cancel." then there's additional info like "actual count = 20480, count = 65536". i then choose and click "cancel" several times, the dialogue box reappears a few more times, then the saving completes. most of the time the project seems properly saved, but sometimes it is corrupted and makes TVP crash upon re-opening.

as to whether my disk is actually too full or not, it seems to have plenty of space; 40 GB in this case. tested it both on the local HD and an external HD. i've also restarted the computer.

the large project in the most recent case is about 400 mb, with about 60 layers, about 900 frames long. file dimensions are about 2000x1000.

am i reaching some size limits here? or is something else going on...

thanks!
Charlie C

The problem may come from the temp file, check where is the temporary folder in the preference panel.

Hi Charlie,

As Herve is asking: it is best to put the tempfile on a seperate disk.
I presume you are working with OS X 10.4 or 10.5?
If so and moving the tempfile does not solve your problem: I had the same issue of this
"your disk may be too full, no such file or directory. retry or cancel."
and corrupted files and frames in the animation with both these OSes and TVPAP 8.x a couple of years ago. Have mailed back and forth with the TVP-team for weeks (thanks for all the support guys realy!) and the best advice I can give you when your problem keeps occuring: update your version of TVP if you can for it will run smoothly then.

thanks for your suggestions.i checked preferences by going to tvp > edit > preferences > general i see 'temp directory' and a 'set' button, and a text entry area that only has '/tmp/' entered into it; no other information. does that indicate a broken path?
btw- i'm using os 10.6.8.

i'd like to update tvp; a while back i think i noticed the latest mac version was still being worked on, perhaps it's available now.

It's only the MacOSX 64bits version which isn't ready, but with only 4Gb of memory you wouldn't take advantage of it anyway.
The 32bits version came out at the same time as all other versions (win & linux).
Quicktime is DEAD. Get over it and move on !

I just add that all the people actually using TVPaint Animation 10 Professionnal Edition (32 bits) on Mac, will have a free access to the 64 bits version of the same software, once it's ready. (should be soon)

btw- any more info on my previous post about the temp directory:
i checked preferences by going to tvp > edit > preferences > general i see 'temp directory' and a 'set' button, and a text entry area that only has '/tmp/' entered into it; no other information. does that indicate a broken path?

btw- this was solved! Herve (i think) was saying it might be my computer hard drive; turns out the HD was dying! (that wasn't an obvious reason at first, as the problem had occurred long before.) it has occurred once or twice since, but without creating any other problems.

thanks!
