I think a 'passepartout' arounfd the camera with adjusteble alpha would be a great improvement to more easily tjeck your composition.
With "passepartout" I mean that you can make the area outside the camera viewport(the blue rectangle) black or transparent grey.
Passepartout is what this function is called in "Blender" the 3d software. I'm using right now together with TV Paint.

+1. Make it black with adjustable opacity.

Right now I do that with a workaround involving the FX stack and a "Motion > KeyFramer" action linking to another document. But it is cumbersome. A passepartout would be great.

I too would like to see this -- actually without a paspart (Slavic spelling 8) ) the expanded feature in the NEW panel makes little sense. My workaround has been to make my own 100% mask (Black paspart which can be made semitransparent with slider) which I place on top layer.

Oh, and actually an export function taking into account the pazzprrtoet (double dutch spelling :) ) would be very handy as wel. An option for TVP to export only what is within the pazzprrtoet.

isn't that what the camera is for? You can just export the camera view? or are we talking about two different things?

Oh, yeah...
I never use that thing. It's just too awfully clunky for me. For proper camera work I want better responsiveness and more control (over the different axes for example).

Well I'm using it a lot for quick camera moves in my animatics/storyboards. And it works surprisingly well(compared to for instance Adobe Premiere).But I understand what you are saying.and improved control over the camera tool is a future request. But now with a passpartout (ot what is it called) maybe you will use it more.

Michael, give yourself more time to play with the camera and use the curve editor stretched the length of the layers to fine tune the camera's behavior, for instance to make the camera hold before it starts or stop in the middle and then go again. You can make the camera shake for instance in a much easier way than when doing this in the FX stack. I think you might become pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. I took a look at it a while ago and could not figure it out (like how to set keyframes for the camera, for example) and went to After Effects and Premiere for the more complex stuff. Do you know if there is a thread on this forum explaining the use of the camera tool, perhaps? I can't find it in the manual...

(Still a proper camera with good conrol over the 3 axes and the timeline would be more than welcome as an extra feature. But that's a long standing feature request, I believe.)

Never mind, I found an explanation in the appendix to the manual and did a testdrive; I still find it clunky though.

Perhaps I just need to get used to it but I want to see and control the camera on a frame by frame basis, the graph is good for speed and ease-ins and outs. I need to see in the project window how the camera moves over my drawing/animation (before I render it); I should see the camera-box move when I scroll through the timeline, I find.

(It's almost right, though. But, please forgive me, that's so annoying; just a little bit further and it would have been properly intuitive...)

Are you saying that you can't see the camera as it moves across your drawings? You can if that is what you are saying In the "Display" window of the project panel there is a menu with "Show Camera" listed next to last at the bottom. Check it to "on".

I must admit to never even tried the camera tool because I've firmly incorporated AnimeStudio into my workflow - doing camera stuff there is striking fast even with large material, and it's the nearest to the old "Animo" camera I know.

Well, to each his own, but I see this camera as something so intuitive and efficient that I cringe at the thought that each time I need to use it I should have to take my project outside, open another app, create the camera move, import the project back ... and then what? Now all my layers are merged!

Yes I see that now, I never thought to look for that option over there. It ought to be somewhere in the camera tool panel, I think. Or always 'on' by default.
Thanks, though! I will try to play with the camera some more and see if it grows on me.
