You could wait another year while the rest of us enjoy the progress...

No, I'm not in the beta-team. And right now my bottleneck is the hardware: I definitely need a MacPro soon, as soon as I can afford it.
BTW AnimeStudio had shifted to OS 10.6 with their latest release. As I'm still with 10.4 I had to skip that update. I seriously hope TVP isn't planning a similar step: abandoning 10.4 or PPC support.

Why don't you just go PC, man? Much cheaper and a lot easier to modify and upgrade.

Let's do some math :)
That PPC has at least 5 years, it may have cost 2000 bucks, or maybe even a bit more.
And it has run flawlessly for all that time, without even reinstalling the OS I guess, or else it would not be 10.4 anymore.
All that without having to open the hood.
In 5 years, how many PCs would you have to buy ?
Add to that money the *time* you spend to reinstall everything each time, plus the occasional reinstall when win blows up.
Then account for those "modifications and upgrades", *time* and money.
And all the *time* lost to learn how that new win works !
Oh, I almost forgot, *NO* preinstalled Norton destructilities...
Sure the Mac beats the PC...
My 2 cents, I'm a Mac user :)

Re: More useful XSheet, improved timeline, drag & drop
my previous and first pc lasted me 5 years ,with sometimes adding/replacing some hardware that was aging but mostly the same throughout. I did have to reinstall several times but as I got older and more experieced that also got less and less. Now that I have Windows 7 I also havent had to reinstall even once (vista sucked big time tho)+ when you do reinstall you can now save your settings and load them automatically, saving some time. I do abhor some microsoft practices (updates, user account control) but I just switch them off so I don' get bothered anymore.
and I never used norton ^^
Windows might have issues but the fact that I have power to influence them (I can buy a replacement part,I can fiddle around in the tower, add and remove stuff at will) is to me a great attraction.
My 12 inch cintiq cost as much as 2 pc's and a screen (maybe a bit less) so that's okay for +7 years and counting (for my 2nd pc)
adding to that that in the last few years the religion like approach by some mac fans, has scared the shit out of me.

Avoid the Windows versus OS X debacle and run Linux... on which both AnimeStudio and TVPPro run

PC MAC LINUX - please leave this debate out of this thread, its really off-topic (By the way, I was 20 years on Windows, and I switched to MAC 4 years ago, and I can assure you - I never go back to PC in my life, sorry for escalating the off-topic again ))
Anyway some kind of a double click option on the sliding bars might be added to slide out/in the notes and sound panels faster.
I agree the way it is now is a bit inconvenient for frequent use, but it's not really a big deal - how often do you need to slide your notes panel out? usually after creating all the notes, I never need that panel again - I set the option of seeing it projecting on the side of the project all the time, and thats it. The sound might have sometimes frequent use, like if you want to check the beat and the accents, but then again - you can mark it all in the notes...Kwadrope wrote:I also want to add that there may be some better idea to the use of the sounds and notes slideout. but sure enough
The sound and note issue, with me is also because of the too manys time I accidently select it.
A pop up would be much less a bother. But when I do use it the argument stil stands. I find it cumbersumb.
If the xsheet gets a make over I really want to be able to view it NEXT to the timeline. they should be undockable. Some info is easier to see in one,and some more in the other. It really helps to be able to see them side by side, imo. This is another reason why I don't use the xsheet (that and xheet layers..)
and while we're at it,Projects should also be able to be be viewed seperatly ,next to the others. Since Tvpaint wants to sell it as some storyboard function,it's not much of a storyboard if I cannot look at the seperate scenes while working on one of them. Not everyone might work like this, but the way it is now,you don't have a choice.

I like this -- the only worry might be that on smaller screens, while working with a single monitor, a split screen of two focuses might be too crowded. But particularly the idea of seeing both the project focus and timeline focus when needed sounds like a practical solution to all sorts of small problems.

well let's say that the current solution, docked tabs next to each other ,is still possible, but you could tear it off whenever you wanted to.Paul Fierlinger wrote:I like this -- the only worry might be that on smaller screens, while working with a single monitor, a split screen of two focuses might be too crowded. and with good gridlike, fast dockable solutions you shouldn't be bothered too much with resizing or moving stuff around.
For good examples watch toonboom or even Blender.
in blender right now you can add ,remove screens at any time and place in a smooth fashion. And when done, you can transform that screen in whatever you need it to be and/or remove it again (the removing is a bit hidden though). Timeline becomes canvas, canvas becomes preference settings, settings becomes xheet and so on. Check it out if you want to see what I mean,it's free,it's awesome.
Now toon boom does this a bit differently but it's mosty the same. One difference is that you can add tabs whereever you want. So not only do you make say: a canvas, timeline xsheet, main panel nicely nested into each other, you can Tab them=> switch from canvas to xheet,to effects panel to projects tab in a flash.
So basicly what we have not with project, timeline and xsheet, but fully how YOU want it. Rather put the xsheet and canvas on the same gridplace? you can.
In a case as this though,it is best to provide users with a reset to default button XD
Multiple programs already work like this in some way or another but Toonboom and blender do it best (imo). Now I'm not saying tvpaint should copy paste what they do,and change your interface to theirs. I'm saying, customizability is a good way to remove many of people's gripes with an interface because they have POWER over said interface. No more problems with big screens ,small screens, double or even triple monitors.
If this is in place, more focus can go to perfecting all the rest.

Re: More useful XSheet, improved timeline, drag & drop
In TVP we can have multiple screens showing at the same time as well, but all will show the same focus. I wonder what it takes, developer-wise, to make it so that we can select whatever focus of the same frame we want in those screens. This sounds very useful indeed. You should enter this into the New Features Request thread.
