TVP9 pro doesn't see my Canon Powershot G3
Hi, I just bought TVP9 pro and because I would like to shoot stills with a Canon powershot G3, but the video input window doesn't mention the camera as an option in the Device box. The boxes Input, Format and Settings don't respond to clicking.
I have a pc with Windows Vista, and have installed the Video Canon plug-in.
My Canon Zoombrowser doesn't see the camera either. On a Canon forum I read that Vista has problems with the old camera's, and TVP 9 has a problem with the new camera's like a Canon G9 I also have.
I installed the Canon Twain driver, and TVP9 sees the Canon G3 as an option to select as twain source, but to acquire from this source crashes the program.
I do have a Canon program for remote capturing but that doesn't show the previous recording simultaniously, like in TVP9.
Does anyone have a suggestion? Switch back to Windows XP? A different camera?
Thanks already!

Re: TVP9 pro doesn't see my Canon Powershot G3
not really to switch back, but a multiboot option could be one solution,
Windows Seven on one partition, and WinXP Pro on another, tvpaint installed on both.
when you need to grab pictures with your powershot, start on the XP system.

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium and have not tried this but... If you are using Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise editions, all of those versions INCLUDE an XP emulation mode... Here's a discussion at this LINK.Roelof wrote:Does anyone have a suggestion? Switch back to Windows XP? A different camera?

Re: TVP9 pro doesn't see my Canon Powershot G3
Thanks!
I've made some progress. I installed TVP9 on previous computer with Windows XP SP2 and the Canon Powershot G3 is recognized in de Video in Window. However, when I press the 'settings' button the settings window appears for a fraction of a second, then the camera shuts down, the window goes empty, then the camera switches back on again (lens comes out) and the settings window disappears. Very frustrating.
I need the settings because what I see is too dark.
Any suggestions?
Thanks again.

Re: TVP9 pro doesn't see my Canon Powershot G3
have you previously set your powershot's shooting mode on "Manual" ?
Re: TVP9 pro doesn't see my Canon Powershot G3
hi Roelof,
About the G9, if you have an HDMI output (there should be one), there is maybe a solution with this card : http://www.blackmagic-design.com/images ... ro-230.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Internal Intensity Black Magic Card : here is the website : http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It allows to grab directly in HD directly in TVP Animation 9.5 as long as the camera.
I'm going to send you an email about your G3 in 5 minutes with some links, the time for me to finish something.

Hi Otto, it doesn't seem to make any difference in which mode you put the camera, but on Manual it also doesn't work. Thanks though,ZigOtto wrote:have you previously set your powershot's shooting mode on "Manual" ?

Re: TVP9 pro doesn't see my Canon Powershot G3
I found out that on windows XP in TVP9 the settings for my G3 Canon can be reset by opening the window of the Canon plug-in. Pushing the button 'settings' in the video out window doesn't work; TVP9 crashes after doing so.
The settings in the plug-in window enable me to ajust the camera so that the picture is bright enough, so that problem has been solved. Remaining problems are:
- the image in the viewfinder is not sharp, whilst the recorded pictures are
- the 'mix' option doesn't work, I can't see the previous recorded picture mixed with the camera's view in any window, on any set percentage.
- I can't ajust manual focus in any window, nor on the camera.
I am getting closer though!
I wonder if anyone got the G3 to work on TVP9.

Re: TVP9 pro doesn't see my Canon Powershot G3
hi Roelof,
About the two first points :
* The viewfinder depends directly from the Canon device (320 x 240 pixels only), so we unfortunalety can not obtain a better quality. (in other words, it's not TVP animation dependant, but linked to the camera itself)
* I think there could be a misunderstanding about the mix option :
To have the use of the mix option, you need at first to use the right mouse button on the [V] button of the interface (at the bottom right of the project window). Of course, you need to have something drawn or grabbed in the background. The lightable might also help to compare with the previous images. (please refer to the last lesson of the manual for more details)
nb (for all people reading this post now and in the future) : As said previously, even with all the efforts we can do, Canon doesn't provide any help at all : no up-to-date drivers or camera to rent ! (we can not purchase all existing camera models or provide a plug-in specific to each of them)
So since this summer our position is to support Black-magic card and cameras with HDMI output. It worked well with everything material having an HDMI output here.
We are going to announce this in the website more clearly than before in the coming weeks.

When you say that, do you mean that the camera itself can't adjust its focus ?Roelof wrote: - I can't ajust manual focus in any window, nor on the camera.
If it's the case, it's normal that the plugin can't.

I got this issue yesterday, and yes, it's very frustrating ...Roelof wrote:... I don't know why, but the Settings panel come up and go, disappearing in the obscur side ...
I had to launch an older tvpa version installation (9.5.0) to recover a stable Video Settings panel
and to be able to tweak again my camera settings (aperture, shutter speed, white balance, ...).
so, it's not a Camera problem, nor the video-canon plugin, but apparently the tvpa Video-in new functionality.
