Re: Did you win an award ?

I didn't mean anything serious or critical. I was just joking on the feeling that I get when I read Ten_zero's posts. In fact, this is a positive thing, because Ten_zero's posts are distinctive, and stand out. They are like suggestive art: they make me re-think the communication.

Ten_zero, I apologize if I offended you in any way. I only meant to joke a bit.

you're very welcome to poke at my Japanese

Thanks chief!

It's a game I don't participate in if I can help it, but sometimes it seems to be impossible. Hollywood has the hype figured out down to the last piece of dog doo.

I just received this letter from the Stuttgart film festival. First, they asked us to submit Tulip and after we did so this came:

As you know, we loved „My Dog Tulip“ and would have liked to present it at the Stuttgart Festival.

Unfortunately now it is too late. The feature length film section is not only dedicated to the normal audience but also to distributors and sales companies. For them the film is not interesting anymore because they already know it.

We hope that you will produce another film of the same extraordinary quality and would be pleased to receive it for the AniMovie competition in due time.

This is the last straw for me... I am swearing off all film festivals for the rest of my natural life. There might be instances when a producer will go over my wishes in the future and over which I might be powerless, but never will my hand fill in a film festival form.

Uah. That's really disgusting. It sheds some light on what they think their main audience is: a handful of producers (haven't seen many when I was there) or the thousands of just plain normal viewers for whom that festival is a highlight in their cultural calendar (exactly the words of people in the audience)!

This is the most unrespectful answer I've ever seen from a festival. Must be written by idiots who never made a film themselves ... or written by an answering machine. ITFS sucks. But I also collected some letters like that - comparable content, but more respectful - from other festivals. So maybe, not only ITFS sucks ;-)

Here's the entire letter with signature:

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year!

All my best,

I think all film festivals in general need to conduct a moral inventory of their positions and the role they play in the advancement of the film making profession. As long as "we need to generate more income" is at the top of their list they should go straight to hell, without passing Start.

I'm terribly sorry for you Paul, this "answer" is quite violent and stink cabbage...
It's completely intolerable, how can they ask for your film and finally say "hmmm, no, it's not lucrative enough for us, try again next year !"

It happens that I know the director of ITFS personally (and usually he's a reasonalbly nice guy. I wonder if it is a good idea if I write to him about that?

Markus, do you think of the commercial managing director, Mr. Lump or of the artistic managing director Ulrich Wegenast ? I don't know the member of the new festival juries but Ulrich Wegenast may be the head of this year festival competition juries again and to be judged for this interesting letter...
I can't believe that he don't know of this letter - for sure he does.
Also have a look at the programme committee:
-Prof. Albrecht Ade
-Prof. Gil Alkabetz
-Prof. Thomas Haegele
-Prof. Andreas Hykade
-Prof. Jochen Kuhn
-Tony Loeser
-Manuela Lumb
-Prof. Thomas Meyer-Hermann
-Prof. Christina Schindler
-Susanne Schosser
-Jakob Schuh
- Richard Lutterbeck
-Thomas Schneider-Trumpp

and make a guess.

My Dog Tulip is one of the best films I have seen the last years and I think the best Paul and Sandra have done so far. I can accept if a jury doesn't like the film ( maybe as non-political 60's bourgeosie stuff ), - but this letter is insolent, meant as a stinging insult.
