communication problem between TVP and wacom driver?

Post by hilere »

I'm working on windows7 with the new 21inch cintiq.
Sometimes I have the problem that the cursor moves about 3/4 screen right of where the pen is placed. Last time I had this problem in TVP, I checked if it was also going on in other softwares. There the situation was normal. My only option when this happens is reboot the computer. This always solves the problem. Just rebooting TVP is not enough. Since it does not happen a lot, and only happens when starting up TVP and not when I'm in a workflow, I consider this a very minor problem.

But it seems there's something fishy going on in the communication between TVP and the wacom drivers. There's this problem, and there's also the problem I mentioned earlier that some of the shortcut combinations in TVP are not linkable to the shortcut buttons on the cintiq. Changing the letter combinations of the shortcut in TVP does not solve the problem. It is the action itself that does not connect.
And there's also the problem (which I have alsmost every time) that it takes a while before TVP recognises the Cintiq shortcut buttons. I usually have to fiddle around with it for a while before it kicks in. Meanwhile it seems it has connected other shortcuts to the assigned buttons.

I already re-installed the wacom driver and TVP. Without any change.

As I said earlier...for me not a big issue, but maybe something to keep in mind.

I'm on a Mac, so the problem might be completely different, but sometimes the Cintiq doesn't recognize the pen anymore or puts the cursor in wrong places. This does affect all programs, not only TVP. A reboot fixes that. Happens about once a month.

I just discovered the shortcut connections are the "all Other" shortcut settings in the wacom driver. The TVP specific settings wake up after a while. This happens also when I leave the computer for a while and the pc goes into power saving mode.

hmmm, I never have noticed a such problem on a Cintiq 21 (old model), but I will be careful next time.

I will test the new Cintiq 21 very soon btw.

Wacom has a new driver September 27 6.1.6-5 which has fixed a lot of issues including cintique ones.

You're welcome... I thought I had a driver problem but it turned out to be a failed pen; never happened to me in all these years. It would activate buttons and draw while hovering way above the tablet's surface (well, about an inch.)

The new driver seems to have big problems too. At least under windows7. Whenever you restart the computer it resets itself to it's original settings and you loose all your personal settings. Saving and re-installing your settings does not work neither. Very annoying. Wacom promises on it's forum a quick update of the driver for this reason.

The workaround is to NOT create software specific settings. If you only use the general settings the problem does not reproduce.

I don't have that problem but I have MX, service pack 3. But I did have a problem on my laptop, when Wacom wouldn't recognize my new pen. Wacom would do well to hire better programmers and engage better (or more) beta testers. Do you know how soon the new driver is thought to come out?

don't know when. On their forum on the thread concerning this problem they stated on October15 to bring out an update soon (don't know if these were the exact words). I agree. Wacom has a big problem with their software team. The hardware is fantastic, the price is high, so as customer we expect at least a driver that is tested thoroughly.
