True Multiframe Randomness in Brush Definition

Post by Svengali »

Has anyone discovered a way to "re-seed" the random option on each frame when a custom brush stroke is applied over multiple frames?

For example, I create a brush where its ANGLE has the "random" option applied. When I draw a stroke with that brush within a SINGLE FRAME, each stamp of the stroke is randomly rotated as expected. But when I select several frames, and press ENTER to apply the same stroke over several frames, the same sequence of random rotations of the stroke are re-applied for EVERY frame. I'd expect the random sequence to be different for every frame so RANDOMNESS is re-seeded and a new sequence of random rotations along the stroke path occurs on each frame. True Multiframe Randomness.

On a related note, I think it would make sense to have a way to limit the range of the randomness in this case, as well - perhaps the value entered in the rotation window would indicate how many degrees in each direction from zero (home position for the brush) the rotation should fall within.

no way at the moment.
It's been requested in the past, so hopefully it'll be implemented in the near future.

Was afraid that was the case :? It's probably not easy to implement for all the places random would be used.

As far as my perception goes, a random seed value is a multiplier which can be applied on the random property (that, i believe, is what happening in After Effect when you set the random-seed value). So it should be possible to assign such multiplier to the random property, or in fact, any other of the properties (rotation, size etc). It should also be possible to assign this multiplier to the pen pressure (or direction, azimuth etc), so that pressure control the amount of randomness applied. But then again, I don't know much about those algorithms. Herve is the one to say if it's possible or not.
