Cintiq and drawing area...

Does this Cintiq only show the drawing area and not a duplication of the entire monitor? One thing I liked about the tablet PC was that my drawing area, all panels and the entire interface were in one place. I don't use a mouse, so if the panels are off on another monitor, how do I get to them?

After further reading I see there are many options including having it work as a mirror of your primary monitor which would make it similar to working with an Intuos, ecept you could also see it. That leaves my only concern the reports of the screen getting hot and people recommending getting a custom glove for it. Not a great consideration for one who wants to draw all day.

If you're using a Cintiq with a Mac, you can choose to use it as a mirrored display (with the entire interface on each screen) or in a dual-screen setup in which the dock and menu bar remain on one screen and the other (Cintiq) operates as additional canvas space.

Also, you can use it alone as a primary monitor if you wish.

Thanks. I found more information about that later. I liek that idea. Since you actually have one, what are your thoughts on how hot the screen gets? Does it get uncomfortable, or is it tolerable?

I think the temperature is not an issue at all. I use my cintiq the whole day, it's on for about 14 hrs, and it's barely warm.

The only problem you will have on a hot day will be your own sweating. In that case a pair of cotton gloves with cut-off tips may help you. Still much better than paper in summer ...

I have to agree. I wouldn't describe it as more than warm. A cotton or neoprene glove is advised, but not necessary. You will, however, want to keep a steady supply of cleaner and a microfibre cloth.

I once bought the Cintiq and one of the reasons why I returned it was the warm surface. It wasn'r exactly hot but I couldn't tolerate working on a warm surface anymore than I could working on an icy cold surface.

Well, it looks like I may get to try one out very soon. The University where I'm giving a lecture this Friday has a Cintiq and they want me to do a demo on it. Maybe I'll be better able to determine if I want to go in that direction after that. Also, we're supposed to be gong to Wacom tomorrow so maybe I can try one there too. I should know very soon if I want to travel the CIntiq road, or go with the Intuos... or maybe just stick with my Bamboo...
