I didn't see a place for hellos.

Post by jmdirc »

Hi everyone.

Been looking for an animation package for 2d and have landed here. Didn't care much for the vector drawing packages and FlipBook just don't seem enough for the price.

Anyway, I'm a fine artist by formal training but have wanted to put my book and sequels into comics and cartoons (similar to anime). Before I commit to such a long range project though, I thought I'd try out the demo as I have the other packages to see if there will be a good fit.

So, I have a million questions and am looking for suggestions, comments, advice, ie., softwares, paths to take, etc.

See you in the forums.

Thank you. Just finished the bouncing ball tutorial. Since I'm using the demo, can't save it and show it. I really like TVPaint. Works well with the Wacom tablet. It sure is intuitive. This is really nice; not even a comp crash. Now if I can save up a few bucks... and improve the drawing skills on a tablet.

Definately will keep up with the tutorials in the mean time.

See in the forums.

hello and welcome jmdirc.
nice paintings in your gallery, I like your style in the "family portrait" canvas,
and the close-up on the pepper is really impressive . :)

about your digital work, what tablet's model/size + pen's model/nib do you use ?

Ten years ago I bought a Wacom Intuos GD 6 X 8. It has set idle for a long time (got side tracked when I picked up 3d). I've used it on Mac and Windows periodically but I never did anything serious with it. The pen is just a plain pen I guess. But, it works great. It is taking me a while to get its use down-pat. I'm use to large canvases- you know, 3 feet or better; not used to small drawings on the computer.

Thanks for the comment on my paintings. As you can see I have this thing for black lines. Like E.D.K., I think they add to the painting. Many artist disagree and have told me I can't do that; but hey, I don't mind breaking a few rules in my art.

Anyway, I suppose that's why I'm looking toward comics and cartooning. It seems to fit since I've made a lot of comic style art for the military and some of its members. Wish I would have kept copies though, big mistake on my part; but, who would have known.

Nice to meet you, see you in the forums
