'new anim layer' shortcut??
'new anim layer' shortcut??
I'm trying to assign a keyboard shortcut for making a new anim layer but it seems to be impossible to do this in the keyboard shortcut panel. It only gives the option "Layer: New" but that creates an image layer... Is there something I'm missing or is it just not possible to do this via the keyboard shortcut panel?

Re: 'new anim layer' shortcut??
What's an anim layer? Must be something very, very old.

I am serious. The anim layer went out many versions ago and you are the first person I know of who has even noticed. With instance layers there is no need for the old anim layer -- or you can easily turn an image layer into an anim layer in several ways I am sure you are familiar with.

Re: 'new anim layer' shortcut??
But what's this then?:
I know you can turn an image layer into an anim layer but I was looking for a faster way to create an anim layer with one shortcut key. It seems strange to me that it wouldn't be possible...

Re: 'new anim layer' shortcut??
I guess it depends on what you call an anim layer. A layer that starts with one empty frame, or a layer that starts with an empty frame but when stretched out becomes many empty frames? If you set the popup to "Add Empty images" you have an old anim layer.

Re: 'new anim layer' shortcut??
So where do I find that? I don't see it in the pop up menu...If you set the popup to "Add Empty images" you have an old anim layer.
What I am looking for is a new layer that I can stretch if I want to and add instances to if want to. I've always thought that that's an anim layer...
I see now that in the manual it's called an 'animation layer' so I assumed that, abbreviated, it would be called an 'anim layer' as in the pop up menu...
But I suppose not. Very confusing.

I agree, it is confusing. I was talking about the popup that appears when you strtch the layer out by its white handle on the right end.

Re: 'new anim layer' shortcut??
Anim layer : a layer to animate, add instances etc...
Xsheet layer : a layer for the xsheet tab
Image layer : a simple image that cannot be animated
I also agree, the Image layer could be withdrawn and the Xsheet layer could be only seen in the Xsheet tab.

Re: 'new anim layer' shortcut??
Hm, it's missing in the keystroke configuration menu. I think it should be there. My habit is to nearly always create anim layers even for still images. Since the introduction of exposures the special ability of image layers, to stretch one image over time without creating multiple frames, is lost anyway, so maybe we should get rid of the concept of image layer?

I personally agree with this.slowtiger wrote: so maybe we should get rid of the concept of image layer?
Well, you can ask for its removing in the "Remove features" topic (in order to see if people finally use it or not)

Re: 'new anim layer' shortcut??
hi Sewie,
to answer to your first question (in the title) :
in the configure shortkeys panel, create a combined shortkey :
Layer: New + Layer: Make Anim, ... then OK, Save, that's all.
note: to add a second command (and more if needed),
- select the shortkey left-side,
- select the command to add in the right-side list,
- then press and hold the Ctrl key and click "Assign".
