scrolling Background for drawing

Post by JesseTheGuy »

Hi everyone im new new here.

Ive been having lots of trouble lately as how to simply get a drawing of mine to continuously scroll along in the background. I simply wish to pan the screen (drawing included...) But everytime i try using the warp tool it cuts off once my drawing is in the grey area. Even on mode warp it justs multiplies my drawings to infinity when scrolling. I tried using the scale tool but it gets annoying as to always scaling my drawing to add in more detail. But even with this method, any drawings past the white square is deleted. Anyways i think you get my point :)

Oh and on another note, will i lose quality if i zoom in a drawing very close for animation? (using the camera tool)

Oh and one last thing please, Did anyone hear ever hear about the auto trimming function??? :P
Thank you sooooooooo much everyone! I really appreciate all of your time! :)

I'm not sure to understand what you want to do...
Do you want to create a camera movement, like a travelling from the right to the left ? In that case, you have to create a project very long (for example in 2000 x600) and use the camera tool to make your pan (for example in 800 x 600). When exporting, you will only see the camera's point of view.

If you simply want to pan your workspace, you just have to press "Alt" and move with LMB. =)

Yes, you are not using a vectorial software : if you want to keep a good quality when zooming, you will have to work in a very high definition.

I don't know this term. What do you mean by "Trimming function" ?

Thanks Elodie for the quick reply!

Im using the demo version so far i like a lot of the features that TVPaint has to offer exept the fact that i cant seem to scroll the background. What i meant to say is, id like to simply (drag) the screen(drawing included) so like that when i want to draw up close and just drag the drawing wherever outside the white drawing space, so that i can add more to the drawing withought losing the drawing once its outside the white box. (ill try to simplify is more) basically, when you use the pan tool, lets say. Once your darwing is outside the drawing box IT ERASES. I just want is to do the exact opposite wich is not to be erased so that i can further carry on with my drawings. :)

And the Auto trimming function you can check it out here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dI0701GM_Y" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Its amazing what this guy did to TVPAint. Apperently its a hack... But if you guys can achieve this withought hacking the tools and just make it as a plugin, id be really glad!! :D

You can't work that way within TVP. Once an element is outside the project boundaries, it vanishes. You can either:
- work within a project which is big enough from the start
- modify an existing project to bigger dimensions

Or is this just a matter of terminology, and what you want is not to move the drawing permanently, but just moce the view of it? Then just
- hold down the alt key while dragging the canvas.

Mark Chong is not a hacker, he is a great TVP user, present on the forum using the pseudonym "Lemec" Mark creates his own plug-ins and sells them, if I remember well.

Okay, I think I understand : you want to draw lines with a perspective, right ? At the moment, you can use the grids + the line tool to help you, but the exact feature that Mark uses doesn't exist yet in TVP (I suppose Mark creates it by himself ^^), but could be added in a next version =)

I just say the trimming function could be added, not the possibility to move the drawing out the drawing space. This last thing is not possible, because TVP animation has to manage too many things (layers, frames, special FX, pixels, drawing tools etc...) and computers are not powerful enough to manage a drawing out the drawing space.

If you want aboslutely preserve a drawing out the working space :
-open a new project (in addition to your project with your drawing)
-open the FX stack => Motion => Keyframer
-go into the tab "Render" and set the source as : Project list => Drawing.

Then, you will be able to move your drawing as you want, without destroy it (after this, all depends on why you want to scroll or pan your drawing out the drawing space)
