This is a little tech note for Windows 64 bit users who have problems with Quicktime displaying a black bar under embedded movies.
I can't believe I solved this really, but as a thing that's bothered me forever, I finally found a solution.
Usually when playing Quicktime movies in Firefox with Windows 64 bit systems, you get a black bar instead of a seek bar. The controls are still there, it's just that there isn't any support for those little bitmaps using Windows Aero.
The solution? I totally uninstalled Quicktime Pro, and installed Quicktime Alternative. At this point, Firefox still believes quicktime is missing for some reason. Install this little firefox addon, as a first step:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1879" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As a second and final step, right click the Firefox icon in the start menu, or it's installed program folder. Under compatibility, check the box marked compatibility mode for Vista, and launch firefox.
Volia, your Quicktime movies now display the taskbar correctly.
Hope that helps someone out there! It makes my life a lot easier viewing samples of work I send out online.
Best,
C

After a bit more research:
Quicktime Alternative is not necessary. This works with standard Apple Quicktime on x64 Windows / 32bit firefox.
The magic is in just having the MediaWrap extension, and setting the compatibility tab to Vista mode on the FF icon..
You're welcome.
