will TV Paint be present at CTN Animation Expo in LA?

In case people haven't heard about it, CTN Animation Expo http://www.ctnanimationexpo.comwill take place in Burbank, Los Angeles from November 20 to November 22nd.

If TV Paint didn't know this is gonna be a massive 2d animation event and all the big start from the Hollywood industry will be there. At Animation Mentor we even got a special pass.

Event includes:

Artist panels / interviews (Mike Mignola, Gary Goldman, Bruce Block, Andy Gaskill, Don Bluth, Harald Sieperman, Jason Ryan, David Burgess...)

If TV Paint didn't know this is gonna be a massive 2d animation event and all the big start from the Hollywood industry will be there. At Animation Mentor we even got a special pass.

Jason Ryan is going so I am sure he will do his usual Digicel sales pitch.

It would be a shame if TV Paint missed that opportunity

We were in Siggraph New Orleans this summer, and in Tokyo in june. (we meet some interesting people like Makoto Shinkai, or People from Telecom Animation Films, MadHouse, etc ... Geidai, Waseda university ...)
Unfortunalety, I don't think we will be in Yokohama in december.

It's not we don't want (I would love to come in Yokohama, really !), but going into Japan is a complex trip to organize, especially because we need someone to do the french-japanese translations, hotel booking, organize meeting.
We also need people to understand the purpose of TVP Animation, it's very technical sometimes and it requires a lot of preparation time.

I know some animation teachers asking for more details and training about TVP. So if possible, I will do something next year for them. (to bad they don't like online training)
At this time, I don't know yet what I will do. Maybe Hiroshima International Animation Festival.

one thing I would like to point out, is that a Disney, Pixar, or Dreamworks animator using TV paint would always be a better ambassador than a completely unknown independent animator even if he were to win Annecy, or Hiroshima. Most Annecy animation short film winners are completely unknown to the wider audience.

Even specialised people like animation students are unlikely to know an award winning director like Kunio Kato but with no doubt they will have heard about Glen Keane or James Baxter.
For information Kunio Kato was the director of "la maison de petits cubes". The short film won Annecy's Crystal and 13 other awards in 2008.

Also, I only went to Siggraph once in 2008 and thought it was the least Animation oriented event ever. As an animator who loves the craft of animation, I am not planning to go ever again. I am more likely to go to Ottawa or Toronto instead.

Regarding CTN it all depends if my boss allows me to take monday or friday off.

As a Japanese speaker who lives only 4 hours flight away, and who also likes to do anime style work, I'd be happy to help if I can. It IS too bad if they don't like online training. I've been doing training videos on various software for a while now and have put a lot of thought into doing TVPaint animeand manga creation tutorials.

I really want to see TVP take off in Japan. They need a paperless revolution. Imagine what it could do for the industry as a whole with lower costs, faster output, and an all digital pipeline. This is what the anime world needs. And, of course, we can't forget the indies. In Japan, indies are encouraged rather than sidelined.

TVPaint can make a huge splash there!

There is a kind of worship to "Hand-written work, paper, and pencil" in Japan. It look like Tetris, the height and number of boxes (include cutting bag and many many manuscripts) are their medal of honor .

90 percent of Japanese Animation studios chose RETAS, studio I.G. (ex: Ghost in the Shell) chose Animo and studio Ghibli chose Toonz. However they are using the pencil and paper for the operation picture supervisor correction ( one of studio's work style ).

They like Bezier curve that can correspond from portable animation to a full HD image by taking a picture only once. It is one of the reasons for them to use RETAS and Adobe AfterEffects (Background images are produced with Adobe Photoshop).

ToonBoom withdrew from a Japanese market in 2005, because ToonBoom was a problem child for the production of animation in Japan rule.

I understand the specification of ToonBoom is based on the rule of the Europe and America studio very well.

They need to start lowering the cost and increasing the speed of productions, preferably without resorting to the Flash route that has plagued TV animation in America. It's like what is happening with live action movies in Hollywood. Even the old hold outs see that digital can't be avoided now.
