Transform selection?

Post by KenC »

Is there a way to select a part of the current layer and transform/rotate/skew etc.. only the selected part?

I do this all the time in painter/Ps to adjust stuff that needs a small tweak in proportions, but I can't find a way to do it in TVPaint.

I tried making a selection and then use the warp/panning tool with "apply to selection" on and "apply to image" checked of, but that gives me like a rubylith overlay around the whole image layer making it awkward to transform just a tiny selection as you have to zoom out to grab the transform handles.

Also how do I drop a selection with the keyboard?

Still trying to get my normal photoshop chops transferred into tvpaint land :D

Whatever you do with a "flying selection" in PS you do with a "custom brush" in TVP. It helps to install some useful tools like that resizing/rotating tool (forgot the name) which makes it easier and much faster to adjust stuff WYSIWYG.
TVP 10.0.18 and 11.0 MacPro Quadcore 3GHz 16GB OS 10.6.8 Quicktime 7.6.6
TVP 11.0 and 11.7 MacPro 12core 3GHz 32GB OS 10.11 Quicktime 10.7.3
TVP 11.7 Mac Mini M2pro 32GB OS 13.5

So I'll have to cut a brush and stamp with it?

I'll see if I can wrap my head around that. I useually jump my selection to a new layer and then control+t in PS and then use "warp/skew/rotate/perspective" so I can use the little transform handles to adjust the transform perfectly in place. Seems a little awkward to cut a brush because the brush would move around and not stay perfectly registered, but I guess I'd have to try it first. I'll have a look at those custom tools, thanks.

Seems like something is comming in 9.5 :D

Ok now I get it with the brush cutting.

It was not immidiately obvious, but now that I got a few shortcuts setup to "brush free resize" and "brush rotate" I can see how to use it as a free transform selection tool.

And you will see, it will be more easier to move something with TVP Animation 9.5.
