I'm new to TVPaint, please help!
Hello, I've been wanting to animate since I was a kid and with technology now days one of my dreams doesn't seem to far away anymore. I've seen some of the work produced on TVP and was blown away! And before I jumped ahead of myself out of excitement and purchase it, I figure I'd download the demo first. I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone can answer. Please forgive me if these are stupid questions, it's just that when it comes to the technical side of things..... I'm a loser. Lol
1. How do you customize your own brushes?
2. Are you able to import video to animate over? If so, how?
3. I've been doing some digital painting in Corel Painter 11 and the brushes in that software are amazing. I've also seen paintings done in TVP that look like they use similar brushes as Painter. How do you find these style of brushes in TVP? Is it a matter of customizing them? I don't really like the brushes that they have in the tool bin.
4. I've used a software called Anime Studio Pro and your able to do really cool camera movements in it. Does TVP have camera movements?
As of now, those are the only questions that come to mind. If anyone can answer any of these questions I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much for reading, hope to hear from you soon. Take care!

Welcome, Cloud. You have asked a lot of questions and to answer in detail would take a lot of writing so I'll just be brief... all your questions can be answered with a yes. Someone has already spent a lot of time writing in detail how to go about getting all those things done, step by step, and it's called a manual. Please, don't take this for a facetious and glib answer (it sounds like one though). There is just so much to explain I recommend you look at the manual in the DOC folder, then use the search engine in these forums to read some of the many many threads discussing the topics you are interested in and whatever is not clear to you, just ask away with no apologizes. You'll get the answers pretty fast.

Hi Cloud (FInal Fantasy VII's Fan ?). I'm glad to know you have downloaded the trial version. Don't worry about your questions, it's a normal thing, and I prefer to see someone asking insead of someone who prefers to be alone
So :
1. To create a brush, use the icon with a "B" into the Main Panel, custumize it below and save it. To save it, open "Windows" => "Custom Panel" => "New tool bar"
2. Of course you can do this ! By the way, don't hesitate to see the Battle Street rotoscoping (Asaf Agranat) or the advertising for "Badoit" (Raymond Gourrier) into our gallery ! To import a video, just click and slide your file into TVP : you can import AVI, DIVX, Quicktime, MPEG.... To animate over, just create an layer above and you won't modify the video.
3. Many brushes can be found on the forum, into "Content Sharing". We also sell a Creation Pack with many brushes, paper, plug-ins etc... And of course, you can modify tool bin's brushes like I've shown you just above. You can also create "animated brushes". To do it, make a simple animation on several frames, select them all, use a "B" icon, and a window will appear => "Cut out an animated brush"
And feel free to customize it into the panel Tool : CustomBrush and save it in a Tool Bar =)
4. And you can also create cam movements into TVP animation : Open "Effects" => "Motion" => and choose "Keyframer" or "Multiplan Camera".
And as Paul has just said, don't hesitate to download our User guide : it's like a big Tutorial
Have fun with TVP and don't hesitate to ask again question ! ^_^

and for specific (technical) question, don't overlook the "Search" tool of this forum.

Wow, that was a quick reply. Thanks guys! I kind of figured that those were questions that were probably asked multiple times. I just got a little excited and wanted to get started right away cause that's what happens when I get excited.... I get impatient, lol! I'm a visual learner and when I see pages and pages of words I get intimidated and a little A.D.D. kicks in. But I've been looking on the forum and have been finding a lot of helpful things. It's a great forum!
So in order to try the creation pack demo, do you have to own TVPaint pro? I like to experiment, so the more things to play with the better. Thank you guys so much again for your help. I'll try the things that you have said and see where that takes me. I'll keep you posted.

Welcome cloud !
And it was and still is a good and exciting way to learn !
That was the way I was learning Mirage (the pre-precursor of TVP 9) - never looked in the manual but learning by try and error (best way to go gray). The only tutorial I picked up was the "clock"-tutorial which was available online (and probably still is...). Everything else came from the community (Paul, Peter, Raymond, Sierra and may, many more...) !cloud wrote: I'm a visual learner...

The creation pack also works with TVP Animation Standard Edition. But you can't install it with a TVP trial =)cloud wrote:So in order to try the creation pack demo, do you have to own TVPaint pro? Don't hesitate to see brushes available in the content sharing : you can install these one on your TVP trial.
Re: I'm new to TVPaint, please help!
I've downloaded some of the brushes from the content sharing. How do I add them to my brushes?
Re: I'm new to TVPaint, please help!
I have just created a topic about it =)
Re: I'm new to TVPaint, please help!
Maybe I'm slow, but I did what you said and all that happens is another window pops up with the picture of the brush in it. I don't know what to do from there. I'm sorry, your probably thinking "this guy is so dumb." lol
Re: I'm new to TVPaint, please help!
don't be so hard with you, you're not a dumb. I prefer someone who asks questions, instead of someone who prefer to give up
So, if I understand well, a panel appears in TVP, right ? If I am, you just have now to click on a brush and draw with it. You can drop this panel on the right or on the left if you want =)
If i haven't understood, can you post a screenshot please ?
EDIT : sorry, it was my fault. I have complete the topic about how install brushes

Thanks
ok so here's the window I get when I do the steps that you posted. It's like an extra canvas window or something.

Ah ! You have imported the icon, not the panel ^^
First, which sort of brush have you downloaded ? A .bin or a .tvpx ? =)

OMG! There we go! It works now. I was importing the icons. I imported the bin files and they popped right in. HAHA! I haven't tried the tvpx one yet. Is it the same thing as a .bin file? Thanks a lot. These brushes are cool! I'm gonna try to download more now. I really appreciate you getting back to me so quickly. If I have more questions I won't hesitate to ask. Thanks Elodie!
