Broken lines with custombrush ?
Broken lines with custombrush ?
Hello dear TVPaint friends,
I have been trying to make an calligraphy brush for inking purposes. I tried it by using a custombrush I made. But when I used it for drawing I noticed the ink line was not consistently black when I applied light pressure with my Wacom (Intuos 3). The line keeps getting broken and this occurs only when I apply light pressure.
When I change the brush opacity to around 20% and apply hard pressure I get different opacity thicknesses in the line. It isn't consistenly gray as (I think) it should be. See the gray horizontal line at the bottom of the screenshot I included. The format I drew this on was pretty big: 4800x3090. I occasionally need those kind of sizes for layouts and I used this as a test. The screenshot, of course, is cropped (not resized) and the paper-button was disabled.
Now I was wondering if, and how, I could get these ink dabs and opacity-inconsistencies to disappear ? I am wondering if any of you working on different hardware configurations have the same problem as I have with this brush? Lately I switched to a 64bit VISTA machine and I am wondering if that might be the problem...
I have attached the custombrush I used and a screenshot of the toolpanel with the settings I used. I am aware that the "step" option is turned on, but even with that option off I keep getting these ink-dabs. Hope someone can shed some light on this for me...

Re: Broken lines with custombrush ?
Hoi Michael,
I managed to do a little test just now and it works fine here.
only when i put the spacing real high do i see an effect but it is different from what you get. Its a very nice brush actually
So the problem might indeed lie with your 64 bit system.
i'm afraid because of Easter you'll have to wait until Tuesday before the team is back but maybe some other users could do a little test.

Re: Broken lines with custombrush ?
i was a bit too quick with my reply.
it turns out i have the same problem as Michael with this brush.
its just that you only notice the effect in the lowest pressure range.
but the problem is there also in the other pressure ranges,
if you set the opacity to 20% you'll notice that the irregular pattern is present throughout the whole line

Re: Broken lines with custombrush ?
It works fine here as well. I like what it does in combination with two colors in the A and B pen with @smear applied. I'm keeping it. Thanks.

Re: Broken lines with custombrush ?
Hmmm. I set the opacity to 20% P and just get a grey with darker color in the loops where the brush steps over itself; nothing like you guys are showing. I'd say it still works here.

Re: Broken lines with custombrush ?
Does it also work as well with very light pressure applied on the tablet, Paul ?
Can you post a screenshot, perhaps ? I'm very curious about your results...Hmmm. I set the opacity to 20% P and just get a grey with darker color in the loops where the brush steps over itself; nothing like you guys are showing. I'd say it still works here.

Re: Broken lines with custombrush ?
Paul, @smear is only in the beta version, not in the public version, ...
Re: Broken lines with custombrush ?
...I don't seem to have that option.. Is it only for beta-testers ? Or a plugin ?

Re: Broken lines with custombrush ?
Can that beta version be the reason Paul is getting better results with my brush ? If so; is the paint engine changed and improved in the update/upgrade ?

no problem, let say it was an unintentional premature teaser ...Paul Fierlinger wrote:Ooops... I thought we are on a beta forum. Sorry.
no, I've tested your custom brush on v9.0.4 and it works fine, like in Paul's test .Sewie wrote:Can that beta version be the reason Paul is getting better results with my brush ? If so; is the paint engine changed and improved in the update/upgrade ?
I rather think it's a last wacom driver matter, I have a v4.78.6 and a wacom2 ... and no broken lines (see pict.)
