Drawing in zoomed mode problem/question
Drawing in zoomed mode problem/question
Hi!
I have this weird problem: when I create a circle (no antialiasing, mechanical pencil used) while the image is in 100% mode, the circle looks as I'd expect. But if I zoom in to, say, 500% and do the same, the resulting circle is distorted and looks like a potato. I tried switching on the grid and setting it to snap and 1x1, but that didn't help.
Also, is there a simple tool that would just draw using a single pixel? Pixelling using all those advanced tools gets a bit rough at times ).
Thanks,
Pavel

Hmm, might this be a Wacom settings issue in mapping? I've never heard of this happening to anyone before.

Really strange... Can you show us screenshots ? =)
Re: Drawing in zoomed mode problem/question
Okay, here it is. I bet I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what.
The circle on the left is done at 100% zoom, the other at 500%.

Oh, when you said "draw" I thought you meant "nakreslit". This stuff is out of my range of experience, but I've heard about this happening and I think it was mentioned in just a recent thread somewhere around here. ZigOtto?

Re: Drawing in zoomed mode problem/question
Yeah, sorry for not being specific enough. I used the circle/ellipse tool from the palette.

Re: Drawing in zoomed mode problem/question
well, it could be a bug ...
the 1rst corner (up-left) is out of the curve, too "sharp" on the angle.
I'm curious, why do you need "pixelized circles" to disable the AAliasing ?
are you working on Pixel Art ?
the only workaround I can see it to draw in a 100% zoom view,
but looking into a new window with a Zoom View at 500% open on your second screen.
another alternative is to draw with AA, then apply an Alpha-Curve FX to get rid of the AA,
it's a bit cumbersome, and not perfect, but usable (after tweaking the threshold level).
Maybe can you state this (bug?) "strange behavior" in the Technical Support section ...?

Re: Drawing in zoomed mode problem/question
Hi All
It's not a bug, TVPA use sub-pixel coordinate for everything, when you draw a circle in a big zoom factor, the center of the circle is not in the center of the pixel, the result is a circle with a bad symmetry ( especially with small circles and non antialised pencil ).
The workaround is to use a grid with an origin in the center of the pixel (0.5 0.5) and 1/1 size.

cool ! ... and easy to do.Hervé wrote:... The workaround is to use a grid with an origin in the center of the pixel (0.5 0.5) and 1/1 size.
Re: Drawing in zoomed mode problem/question
Aaaah -- I did suspect this, that\s why I played with the grid, but I didn't think of the 0.5, 0.5 trick. Thanks for the tip!
And, well, yes, I'd like to infect my artists with TVPaint for pixeled art. It looked like a future-proof and professional solution as finding a painting program that would both animate AND have layers is quite difficult. We tried Pro Motion 6, but I can't get its idea of layers, so how could my poor artists be expected to... So unless I find a more suitable alternative, I'm trying to test TVP...
Thanks!
P.S. Paul: Wow!
